Self Serve Beer and Soda Machines

I read somewhere that on board the Koningsdam they had self serve beer and soda machines. Does anyone know if this is true and if so how does it work?

This is correct. For soda, you purchase the Freestyle package and get a cup with a chip for use in the machine. The package also entitles you to soda from any bar or venue. (you get a sticker on your key card)

For beer, you wave your key card in front of the scanner, tap your beer, and it is charged to your account.

Does the Explore 4 "card" work on the beer machine??

This may be a dumb question, but where do you clean the soda cup? Or do you get a new one periodically?

No ... room card only. You are charged by the ounce.

It would not be very wise to waste one of the 15 allowed drinks on the Explore 4 card for a few ounces when you can get a full glass of the same draft beers about 15 feet away at the Lido Bar on the same card.

This may be a dumb question, but where do you clean the soda cup?

You can wash it in your bathroom sink. Use a couple of drops of the liquid shampoo as soap, rinse, then leave to drain on a washcloth.

In a pinch, they can be rinsed in a public restroom; dry with a washcloth/hand towel, and take it with you. I wouldn't use the hand soap in the public restrooms to wash a cup, though.

No personal experiece, but a friend took a very small good quality travel size squeeze bottle with dish soap and kept it in her purse for washing it. She felt that worked well.

DH attempted to use the draft beer machine in March and said never again. It didn't give him the correct amount of ounces and the "draft" just wasn't worth it. Did not try the soda machine as the price of a can was a better buy.
