Trying to find a good cruise from Greece (Not the Greek Islands)

Our previous Ist cruise from Southampton (NOS) was difficult due to flying arrangements from Crete to Leeds and then another flight to Southampton to join the ship.

We had many days in hotels in the UK before and after our cruise that cost $$$

We are now looking for another cruise (have the bug) without the hassle of too much travel.

We have a Greek TA we used for our 1st cruise but they do not have the conditions that the American TA seem to have.

Is it possible to use an American TA , together with the OBC , changing cabins when a change of price, low deposit etc that seem to be the norm in the USA?

I realise we can depart from Athens but most of the ships go to Greek Islands.

Would love to fly to USA but the cost is too expensive.

Any ideas??

It may be cruise line specific, but we have several UK friends that use US travel agents to book Royal Caribbean cruises. They can get price drops and deposit refunds if they cancel before final payment date.

Are you not able to book directly on a cruise line website? Where do you want to cruise to? Go to www.cruisetimetables.com and choose European ports of departure from the first list. Some lines board their cruises in many different ports along the itinerary. Lots of cruises from Civitavecchia and Barcelona, Venice - although those would probably take in some Greek ports. EM

I'm guessing you know that (nearly?) all cruises which depart from Greece do so from Athens. But there are certainly plenty of cruises from Italian ports, a number from Croatian ports, some from Turkey (Bodrum / Marmaris) and some from Cyprus.

Many of those are actively marketed only as fly-cruises from the UK but they also sell cruise-only - so google for Mediterranean fly-cruises from the UK and ask the operators about cruise-only prices. You'd have to fix your own flights/ferries from Greece.

Consider also any cruises where Crete or another convenient port is the first or last port-of-call, so that you can join or leave the cruise there (with permission in advance from the cruise line) and at least avoid / reduce travel one-way.

I very much doubt that using a US T/A will work for those UK-orientated cruise lines, I'm not sure about that for the many cruises out of Italian ports by Italian lines Costa (part of Carnival) and MSC (independent), but it should work for US cruise lines operating in the Med.

There are pros & cons for using a US T/A, see this recent thread
