mrmusicman Posted January 22, 2018 #1 Share Posted January 22, 2018 We will be arriving in Tahiti Sunday April 29 at 9:30 pm for an 11 night Windstar Cruise that departs Thursday May 3. Any suggestions regarding how we should spend those pre-Cruise days? Thanks!!
LocoLoco1 Posted January 24, 2018 #2 Share Posted January 24, 2018 Rent a car. Get the heck away from Papeete ASAP. Buy nice French baguettes and wine at a Carrefour's Mart, then Linger at small beaches and cantinas on the South end of the island...near Mataiea, Papara and Paea beaches. Drive til you see locals surfing with their kids.. amusez-vous bien.
Rare Fletcher Posted January 27, 2018 #3 Share Posted January 27, 2018 I actually love Papeete - it has rather raffish vibe and at night you should have a dinner down on the waterfront at the roulottes. Rent a car and drive around the island. Make sure you visit the fabulous sweep of black sand beach at Matavai which is where Captain Cook and Captain Bligh arrived. There's a lighthouse to mark the spot. Also drive up as far as Tautira where the scenery is absolutely stunning. This is unspoilt Tahiti and where Robert Louis Stevenson lived before he moved to Samoa.

Any suggestions regarding how we should spend those pre-Cruise days? Thanks!! We did that a few years ago but spent a longer period of time. Get an entire Island tour with one of the tour companies with good reviews. Or take the ferry 30-40 min to Moorea and book an overwater bungalow for a few days. Heaven.
