Cruise protection plan for international travellers

Hi

Heading to Australia & New Zealand, next Dec/18 for a 16 days cruise. We are a couple 64 + 52 yeas old. No pre-existing conditions and in a good health and shape.

Unfortunately, the cruise company refused to offer their protection plan as we are non-USA citizens, moreover, most of the major insurance companies like AIG, Alliance and Bupa didn't accept us, as they couldn't operate and offer their products in our region, Egypt and the middle east, as they have local branches, which didn't offer such plans. So, I wonder if anyone could advice us with an insurance company which offer a medical as well as travel protection plan for our-self, cancellation protection will be very crucial as, most of our reservations will be non-refundable.

Thanks a lot for help and advice.

PS

We paid $1000 down payment for the cruise last July/17, and the rest will be next June/18.

I just now came across these two sites for international travel (health insurance).

At least one seems to include non-USA citizens (perhaps both do), and likewise for "travel insurance" (vs. long-term regular health care).

https://www.internationalinsurance.com/

https://www.internationalcitizens.com/

I know absolutely nothing about them, other than a recommendation on another Forum where we participate.

Perhaps these can help.

If so, please report back, as this question comes up regularly, and most of the "travel insurance" discussion here seems to focus on USA-based citizens/residents.

Good luck!

Allianz Global Assist Travel Insurance can be purchased thru many large US based travel agencies where Allianz is a Preferred Provider for the travel agency.

However, regardless of which Allianz plan you purchase, as a non US citizen, the Pre-Existing Medical waiver will be void.

Hi

After doing some research, we end up with 2 plans

IHI Bupa global travel insurance and,

Roundtrip international plan for non-USA citizens.

Both plans cost almost the same.

The only significant downside of the IHI Bupa plan is the trip cancellation and interruption option: “ travel cost you elected to protect up to $2000 per insured” while the Roundtrip plan covers up to 100% of costs in case of cancellation as well as interruption of the trip.

The medical cover of the IHI Bupa plan is by far much better than the Roundtrip plan, and I don’t need to check reviews as we used the Bupa medical cover for the last decades, and we don’t experience any problems.

At last, we left with only 2 plans for international travelers; the Bupa medical cover is definitely superior to the Roundtrip while the trip cancellation and interruption cover of the Roundtrip is much better than the Bupa.

We didn’t make up our mind yet and need some more research.
