Contemplating a 3 night Liberty Cruise

We were on the Liberty last May for a 4 night cruise and we really enjoyed it. I will be at a conference in October and have a few days afterward to do a mini vacation. Carnival had a nice deal on a suite on the Liberty and I ma thinking it could be a lot of fun.

I have heard reviews that a 3 day cruise is a "booze cruise". Is that really true? I don't want to be on a ship of crazies!

Also - how are the suites on the Liberty?

We sailed on the 3-night Liberty in a suite last summer. Easily one of my favorite cruises! The suite (and ship) was in great condition, and the staff and crew were fantastic.

One of the unique things about Liberty was being invited to an arrival party while sailing into Nassau. We're fairly sure it was because we were in a suite, but we're not sure. The cruise director arranged for everyone to meet at a set time/place, then led us to the bow of the ship. They had music, a bar (everything was free), photographers, and some guest speakers about the ship and Nassau. It was incredible! Such a great way to experience sailing into Nassau. He did say that Liberty is the only ship that they do it on (not sure if that has changed), but it was a fantastic experience.

We also booked the Chef's Table and the steakhouse. We didn't find too many 'boozers' (other than ourselves, of course :') ) Overall, I would do this cruise again in a heartbeat!

Thank you! We like a few drinks but we are not into a rowdy crowd. This sounds fantastic! Did you do an excursion in Nassau?

Happy to help! The crowd definitely wasn't rowdy in the least. Just lots of folks trying to soak up as much sun as possible.

We didn't do any excursions in Nassau, as we've been there so many times previously. We just walked around and checked out all of the old buildings and whatnot. On previous trips, we've done the trip to Atlantis, the John Watling rum distillery, booked a day pass at British Colonial Hilton Nassau, and just more sight-seeing on our own. (I've also spent a Nassau day on the ship, enjoying the empty venues and just relaxing with a good book.) There are lots of great self-guided walking tour maps online. We find we do less and less excursions the more we cruise, and the more frequently we visit a port. :)

We have been on quite a few 3 day cruises including carnival liberty - and really i have never seen anything totally crazy - if people start acting out and make you uncomfortable move to a different part of the ship there is plenty of room for everyone to enjoy themselves

I remember there being a party one night on deck by the pool that started around 10pm and got pretty loud for a couple of hours, but that was the only time and the rest of the ship wasn't wild at all. I've never personally been on the Liberty.

I just did the 3 day Liberty as a solo female far north of 40. I enjoyed it so much, I’m going on the 4 day in Jan. [emoji4] I did a town tour excursion through Carnival that was fun. I’ll probably just wander on my own a little next time. I didn’t see any excessive partying at all.

I did a 3 day on Valor about a year and a half ago when she was doing the short cruises from Port Canaveral. There were a few people that were actually a little rowdy around the Lido bars on our sea day but nothing that bothered me. I spent most of that day in Serenity and it was incredibly peaceful. If I wasn't about a 10 hour drive from Canaveral I would probably take several of those short cruises every year. If you're already gonna be down there I say go for it!

I made my reservation and I was told we would be invited to this party as well. I am pretty excited about it. What night does this happen and what time? (I am assuming it is the first night) Also what night is formal night?

I wouldn't fly in, get a hotel, etc for just a 3 day cruise.

Now if, I was already in close proximity to the port, I would absolutely do it.

I am in Orlando for a conference that starts on Monday and ends Thursday morning. I wanted to do something after and this cruise was a perfect fit.

Awesome! It's actually first thing in the morning - just before you sail into Nassau. I think we met at 9:00am or so? You get to be right in the front of the bow as you sail in, and then as you dock. It was such a cool experience.

  • 3 months later...
Just got back off 3 night Labour day weekend. Bad idea.

Yes you can move to different parts of the boat but it is a booze cruise to be honest. Very annoying - lots of drunk people on board.

3 days are always like that if your not looking for something like that its best to take a 5 night or longer cruise

I have done several 3 days cruise including one on Liberty last month. There tends to be more drinking on these cruises, but I have never seen anyone get out of hand or see significantly more drunk people than I do on week long cruises. The Lido deck during the day and the night clubs in the evening tend to be a little more rowdy on these cruises, but I usually don't spend too much time in either area during a cruise. I find week cruises in the summer or over holidays with kids all over the place far more annoying than anything I have seen on a 3-4 day "booze" cruise.

I took my wife on a 3-day cruise on Liberty last December - it was her first cruise, and being over a weekend meant we didn't have to take much time off work.

We didn't find it to be a booze cruise. Two possible reasons, I guess: We were the boozers; or because we hung out at the Alchemy bar a lot, we weren't surrounded by 21 or 22 year olds all taking shots of tequila or grabbing their third bucket of Bud Light.

The Lido deck during the early afternoon (departure day and day at sea) was not full of party animals. Maybe it was at night, but we had early dinner then typically retreated to the Alchemy Bar for martinis and the like. We did not go the nearby clubs in the evening, but they didn't seem all that noisy/rowdy from across the promenade.

I dunno, maybe it depends on your expectations. We are not kids any more, but we are certainly not "old fuddy-duddies" - we like energy from crowds, we attend music festivals and try to get as up close to the front as possible, and we like to interact with new folks.

If you do want to retreat to a really quiet place, find the Cabinet bar - if it is open, it is either got karaoke going on, or is just mostly empty (first night of cruise we went there and it was open but empty).

Alternatively, if the weather cooperates, get a drink and stroll the outside top decks, or go find one of the (not-so-) secret forward decks. Lots of places to stop and have some quiet time. Or find a seat on one of the upper decks overlooking the Lobby bar - listen to the music or whatever without dealing with the immediate crowd.

I think you'll be fine and have a great time!

We were on Liberty last May and booked again for November. We didn't see any particularly rowdy, drunken behavior. But there weren't enough bartenders so it took FOREVER to get drinks. I wish Carnival would stop cutting their staff down to the bare bones.

I have never had to wait more than 5 minutes at the most for a drink at any bar on Carnival. On my last cruise a few weeks ago, they had 6 bartenders at the atrium bar for the 80s music trivia. I didn’t see anyone waiting very long for a drink (we were sitting at the bar) and the atrium was packed. I have not witnessed any cutbacks when it comes to bar staffing.

Good to know you didn't have problems. We waited over 20 minutes. We'll have to wait till November to see if things have improved on Liberty. I hope so!

I think I'd recommend a 7 night or longer over a holiday weekend! I just got back from the 5 night Fantasy sailing that left on Labor Day. I haven't seen so many obnoxious drunken jerks on a cruise in years - even on the many 3 and 4 night cruises I've done. Actually, that might have been the booziest cruise I've ever been on. There were some drunken 20-something 'ladies' SCREAMING and cursing at the bartender at the casino bar because they had to wait more than 30 seconds for a drink. I quickly excused myself from the area, figuring security would show up shortly. And that was before sailaway. :o

I also witnessed another young woman being wheeled back to her cabin after getting too drunk to walk in Costa Maya. :o Those 2 experiences seemed to be the norm on this sailing.

Don't get me wrong, I drink and I still had a great time, but that experience definitely makes me rethink holiday weekend cruises!

I definitely think it matters WHEN you cruise almost more than the amount of days. I just got back from a 4 day Liberty Cruise that was not a “booze cruise” (although I expected it would be). I went on a 5 day Triumph Cruise right after college let out (was waiting to take my college aged daughter on a cruise) and that was MOST DEFINITELY a booze cruise!
