There is an inherent difficulty comparing Concierges from the "old" NCL and the "new". The old NCL gave concierges (and HDs and FBs) much greater Latitude (pun intended) in extra perks and awards. Our all time #1 Concierge Supreme (unnamed) provided comp limo transfer (after Med cruise) from NCL to RCCL ship in Rome to return to U.S. which we booked by internet on board. He arranged by ship phone to have his friend, the RCCL concierge, meet us at the dock, escort us on board (by passing on shore check in) and sit us with the Captain for dinner. Today's NCL would not allow this. But, even if they did, I don't believe anyone would think of doing it because of a New cruise industry zeitgeist.

Uniall, you are so correct but this goes throughout the ranks as you say. Also I think the issue is that being S & P 500 the only people that REALLY matter are the shareholders and all we do is help to deliver shareholder value.

The other issue is this the old teams came through the ranks and therefore had a family attitude. I will not mention names but the recent losses are in our view starting to show through in how inexperienced some HD are. The likes of Klaus and his teams will not be seen again in our view. Yes some exist and are still shining lights but thanks to you and the MSC match we may well try the Yacht Club next. I suspect we know a lot of the same crew both past and present some of whom are now with MSC and HAL!!

The concierges other than those like Adrian David and Yahira (Hanno but do not know personally), are really top Guest services reps and are not concierges in our view. I

There is an excellent guest services supervisor who we think we make concierge in the future I will keep his name for now but lets revisit this post one day :)

I'll rely on you to reconnoiter MSC ahead of me. I'll expect your usual excellent reports.

But first, I've got to complete NCL Ambassador in May and do my free award cruise in Hawaii on Pride of America in the Fall '18.

Then, I'll do MSC on whatever ship to which Yannis is assigned.

We have only been in a suite once and had Hanno; if others are better than him they must be marvelous.

I agree about Hanno.

We had him on one of our B2B long cruises and he was amazing.

When debarking at popular ports, he was so tall, he could see what was ahead and find great ways to get us off first.

There are so many great ones!

He is definitely on that list.

John, you will love him!

I have two questions

  1. How free is the free cruise - Port taxes Service charges etc are they included?
  2. Is there any blackout period and what grade of cabin do you get?

I suppose I could go and read the rules just being lazy :)

And yes it will be to follow Yannis!

7 day cruise balcony. I think I have pay port and tax charges. I can apply the at booking time price to suite at current price and pay the difference.

That is correct. You will also get the Service Charges prepaid.

Travel protection is extra, and any current promotion (i.e. Bev Pkg, Spec Dining, Internet, etc) are not included and you will have to book those separately.

Can you pick any cruise

From what I understand it is any seven day cruise on NCL. The complementary cruise must be taken within one year of reaching Ambassador status.

If you want to upgrade from a balcony cabin to a higher category, you will pay only the difference in the two rates.

Maybe I should use an internet funding site to raise money to cover my upgrade from balcony to suite. ;p:cool:

The Pearl as of disembarkation 11/26/17:

Cary Turecamo Hotel Director

Maik Reichelt Food & Beverage Director

Misiel Bulaon Exec Housekeeper

Simon Akinwolere Cruise Director

KitKat Galope Guest Services Manager

Menino Luis Executive Chef

Oscar Fernandes Restaurant Manager

Zsanet Pap Beverage Manager

Anne Barbaza Group Services Coordinator

Yahira Concierge

Interesting thing - the hotel director likes to hold a follow up CC meeting on the last sea day to find out what worked and what didn't. He says he's the only one who does that, and he finds it more important for him and his staff.

I can see the value in this but its a rather biased group who probably like us are NCL fans and may not represent the populous. I am not a researcher so I might be wrong. What i do know the Dear ..... box does get read!! I would not give a beer at the bar to give my opinion free.

I get what you're saying, but we actually had a few problems this cruise - which has never happened on any of ours no matter the line. And we discussed them, and I know they were going to go back and find out what happened. They agreed that our issues in Le Bistro shouldn't have happened. 3 out of 7 days, we had issues with the toilet not flushing, and it was fixed each time. Our phone didn't work, and they replaced it. The only thing that wasn't resolved were our issues in Le Bistro.

I can't speak for other people, but I don't consider myself a cheerleader for any line. We've done mostly NCL in the past 9 years because that's what has mostly worked for us, but will go where we need to go to get what we want or need.

And I too understand what you are are saying.. Sometimes when you have an issue the fact that you can discuss it makes it seem a whole lot better and that is a big plus. Problems will always occur in life and its how you try to resolve - them is the issue. On that basis I agree it is a positive move.

I didn't really "feel better" about our issues. Because I have a long background in customer service (mostly internal in healthcare), I try to give people an opportunity to make corrections that should benefit other people. If I let someone know about a problem and they choose not to do anything that's on them. But I did my part to make them aware of the problem.

How do you reach the CD & HD prior to a cruise? Thanksgiving day my DH was diagnosed with stage 4 Colon Cancer and every doctor has told us to still take our trip as planed before starting the poison chemo. This is very well our last cruise together as a family, and I need as much help getting him out of this funk. I thought maybe the CD could get us an edge on getting on the newlywed game, as it's our 20th anniversary. Maybe the HD could have a couple of extra towel animals placed or a flower or two. Little things like that, you know. His prognosis is absolutely devastating and that he will be leaving me behind to raise the kids is only making it worse. He starts chemo the day after we return....Thoughts? Emails? anything...We are on the Getaway leaving DEC 10th if that helps finding an email address to the ship.
