First Cruise on Silversea

Just booked our first cruise with Silversea. We will be cruising on the Silver Whisper from November 2 until November 11. We have always been die hard Princess cruisers but our friends told us about thier Silversea experience and we figured it was worth the price.

Would appreciate any input on the Silver Whisper. All of the reviews I have read certainly rate this ship as outstanding. Thanks in advance for any advice.

The Whisper is identical to the Shadow. So if you like a detailed account on what your cabin will be like, you are welcome to read our thread "Mexican Riviera December 14-21 Part II" posted in December, 2004 in this very Silversea column. Hope it helps.

Hi,

I'm originally from Chicago, too. Whereabouts are you from?? I haven't sailed Princess, but can tell you-- you will be happy with Silversea. Our first cruise was with Sea Goddess (now Seadream). I just looked up the date and it seems it was Dec. of 98. Then we did a crossing on the QE2 in May of 99. We stayed in the Queen Anne suite. In 2003 we did a Crystal cruise. My husband always wanted to do the Panama Canal and was ready to book on board (Crystal). I said, "Hold your horses." Our cousins were doing a Silversea in the Med. at the time and I wanted to hear there take on things.

Well, after seeing her pictures and "book", we booked a Silver Suite on a ten day Panama Canal in March/April 2004. I was very pleasantly surprised with everything. The food was great (can't even compare with Queen's Grill-- and I ordered special almost every night! -- And Crystal didn't WOW me). Having everything included made things tidy and nice. I was very happy with the entire trip.

We then did an Alaskan cruise on Celebrity in June 2004. I was happy with the dinners. They were very good. I went in not expecting too much, was happily surprised. It is a completely different experience, but for the price was dead on. Room service breakfast was excellent, lunch buffets not so good at all. All in all, not a bad experience. But, signing for everything drives you up a wall. Especially after Silversea. And especially having to pay for drinks in the casino!!

Then in Dec of 2004, my sister and I took a Silversea Silver Whisper cruise to the So. Carib. in Dec. 2004. I noticed some changes, but not enough to make me unhappy. And my sister (who was extremely impressed, especially on boarding) and I booked a Med. on board. We leave in two weeks. And, yes, once again on the Whisper. I Look forward to a very wonderful sailing. (Hurray! Because I'm with hubby in a Silver Suite!!) If you you need to know anything --I think I can answer it. In Dec. we had a shared balcony Vista. Not a bad deal. I have seen all the rooms. What is your cabin #???
