Review of Pearl to Alaska 6-3-18

This is my first review on cruise critic so you'll all have to bear with me.

First a little about us. I'm 29. My fiance is 32. We live in Iowa. This is our 2nd cruise. Our first was a 7 day in Hawaii aboard the NCL Pride of America.

This trip started as a family trip. The first my parents and all both my siblings I had would have ever gone on together. Then Sean proposed, and my mother suggested the idea of us getting married on vacation. My fiance doesn't really have a lot of close family left so we decided to go for it. That's how it morphed into a wedding cruise.

We are being joined by my parents, my aunt and uncle, his aunt and uncle (all late 50's to late 60's), my cousin and his girlfriend (early 20's), and our closest married friends (early 30's).

We origunally chose Alaska because its the only state my mother has never been to, but as this trip became our wedding we opted not to go somewhere warmer since both my fiance and I are fair skinned (I'm a ginger) and I really didn't want to be a lobster in my wedding photos. [emoji23]

Just to test my image sharing here we are a couple weeks ago at the shooting range.

Anyways [emoji16]

I work in food service as a cook and I have a part time job as a bartender so there will be lots of food and drink reviews. My fiance parks cars for a hospital so I'm sure he'll give me a great review of our rental car.

I'm all packed. Sean's a procrastinator. I spent the day today getting our dogs ready to spend 13 days with family while we are gone.

We fly out of MSP on Friday afternoon, and will be arriving in Seattle around dinner time. Tomorrow is going to be a busy day. I have Mani/Pedi appointment with my friend Michelle who's coming with us. We have to pick up Sean's suit from the tailor (procrastinator!!) and we have to drop our dogs off with the sitters.

Pre cruise we are staying at the Best Western Seattle Airport. The outside does not look as well kept as it does in the pictures online. When we first got here I was afraid of how the room would look judging by the run down exterior. The room turned out to be clean and exactly what I originally expected. The refrigerator doesn't have a freezer compartment for my fiance's ice packs, but we will make do.

After check in we hit the on site cafe. The information I got from the internet was very misleading. I had expected a full restaurant, but the menu was not very big. Individual pizzas, some sadwiches, some salads, and a couple fried things. Beer and wine were also available. Overall it was hot and convienient so we can't complain.

After dinner we hit the pool area. The hot tub was hot and the jets worked very well! The pool was a bit on the warm side for my liking, but for us the hot tub is really the draw. It's nice to relax our muscles after a long day of driving and flying.

We ended up having to make a last minute trip to Walmart tonight as well. Who doesn't forget at least one thing when they go on vacation?

Tomorrow we are renting a car!

So this morning we rented a car. The hotel has a free shuttle to the airport where we caught the free shuttle to the rental car facility. All the different companies were all housed in the same big building. We got a standard car for the same price as a compact from Enterprise. We ended up in a Hyundai Elantra. It's a nice car with a smooth ride.

We drove up the 405 and got on the 90 to head to Snoqualmie Falls. The 90 was so scenic! We got great pictures of the mountains.

Snoqualmie Falls was so beautiful measuring at 268ft. There are some stairs, but this is an easy hike. Just remember: the owls are not what they seem!IMG_20180602_094832.thumb.jpg.f3b00777d8bfd5866066b0bbd1f42265.jpg

Lunch was at a little spot called Lunchbox Laboratory. Kobe beef burgers and milkshakes made with Snoqualmie ice cream.

The theme of this restaurant is right up our alley. Sean proposed to me at ComicCon International in San Diego, CA. The lunchboxes where a mixture of new and vintage. The burger was good. Sean ordered a Dork burger (made from duck and pork) which he really loved. I also tried the Mac n cheese. It was underwhelming. Good ice cream, though I wasn't ready for alcohol this early in the day.IMG_20180602_125333.thumb.jpg.1c841a501d111ee970575a98f2ea1913.jpg

Seattle Pinball Museum. It was $15 to play for as long as you like. All machines were on Freeplay except two. I planned this for Sean because one of the first things we did together was play in pinball league. They had at least 30 pinball machines and a handfull of other arcade games. I even beat him at a couple games. [emoji16]IMG_20180602_153714.thumb.jpg.a9bd397a66f47d4a27723d3062cf9898.jpg

After dropping off our rental car we met our friends at the airport and the four of us headed to pioneer square for dinner and drinks.

Dinner was at Collins Pub. It was a nice place. The fried food was less than awesome according to our friends, but Sean had the pork chop and I had a NY Strip and both were excellent. The two vodka pineapples helped too [emoji16]

After dinner we hit the Smith Tower for a ride to the top for a nice view and more vodka. [emoji28]

The elevator here was vintage and our attendant was funny. On our trip back down he put the elevator into manual operation and stopped by the door to the Pixar office. It happened so quick I couldn't get a picture.

Why does everything look even more beautiful in person than in pictures? Wait, my photos are from a smartphone 🤣[emoji23]🤣

This morning we had a bit if a lie in. I scheduled a shuttle through Seattle Express at 12:15. I was thoroughly impressed by the service. When I told them my wedding dress was in the garment bag, he put it up front with him so it wouldn't end up under other people's luggage.

Check in was a breeze. We were through in less than half an hour. Now we are sitting in O'Sheehan's getting a quick lunch before our drill.

Menus:
