Using On Board Credits in the Casino

I would like to use some of my on board credit (obc) in the casino on Silhouette. I've been told it can be done by one Celebrity representative and that it cannot be done by another representative. I've also read that one poster just went to the casino cashier and converted on board credits to casino chips. Have any recent cruisers used obc to gamble in the casino?

You can use your OBC to gamble in the casino at either the tables or the slots. They will either give you promotional chips that are replaced as you win with chips you can cash out at the casino window. The promotional chips cannot be cashed out ... they can only be used for gambling.

The same rule applies as to the slots and video poker machines, you can only get cash for your winnings. The load your requested amount of promotional credits onto your cruise card at the cashier's cage and then you can load that from your card onto a machine and play. Once the promotional credit is used, it will spit out a ticket for you (as in Vegas) and you can redeem the ticket for cash. And, don't worry if you are playing one machine and need to switch to another without having used all your promotional credits, just hit the cash out button and the machine will figure out how much of it is in winnings (and give you a ticket for that amount) and how much is listed as promotional credits (and return that amount back onto your card).

You know, people were taking advantage of cashing in their OBC in the casino and obviously, that is not and intended use according to the cruiseline. They even posted it all over this site on how this could be done. Celebrity got wise to this so the above policy was put in place. I am nearly 100% sure this is how all the casinos on Celebrity now handle this transaction. I've not seen it done any other way over the last couple of years.

Thank you all for the replies. I'm glad to hear the obc can be put to use having some fun. There's nothing I want in the ship's stores, I already have so many formal photos after 18 cruises, and I'm booked for two Murano dinners. I'll be happy to use the remaining credits in the casino on sea days. Yay!

The description of the process from Cruise Raider is excellent. I have used this process on my last two Celebrity Cruises to use up my non refundable OBC playing Video Poker.

In my case the machine did not spit out a ticket, I had to cash out. I figured out roughly when my bets totaled the amount I was given, then I cashed out.

I did not realize that the machine would put the unused amount back on my card, so I added to my card in $100 increments. It will be even easier next time.

Cruise Raider, thanks.
