What do you wear to MDR on non-formal nights

I always feel like I missed the class on how to dress appropriately for various situations, and never feel like I'm wearing what I should on non-formal nights in the MDR. If I'm not overdressed, I'm underdressed. Would love some ideas on what others wear!

I'm going on RC, and I'm in my 50s at home I'm a jeans and sweatshirt/t-shirt girl, and wear scrubs at work, so I don't even have work outfits to fall back on! Too heavy (and ugly legs!) for all those cute short dresses/skirts (size 12).

Thanks for suggestions!

I love to bring dresses. I especially like the sundresses that one finds in Athleta and TitleIX for warm weather cruises and in cooler climates or for boarding I wear T-shirt/shift style dresses that are heavier cotton with some stretch on the non-fancy nights. You can find them in all kinds of prints and colors and can be belted or left unbelted. They don't wrinkle and they pack up small in the suitcase. I always buy talls so they aren't too short because I'm 5'9". I've even found some real cute ones super inexpensive at Old Navy. (style like this: http://oldnavy.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=1054446&pcid=1054439&vid=1&pid=820907002) I always have one of these in solid black to dress up or down. I don't typically bring jeans, too heavy and too casual for me, but I've seen plenty of "olderish" ladies in capris and cute tops. I am 60. I like these type of dresses because it is one piece. You can wear sandals. You can dress it up based on the jewelry. They pack like a charm and never wrinkle. You can pick them up relatively inexpensively.

I try to bring knit skirts in solid colors then you can add a dressy top or a knit top and jewelry to dress it up. You can wear it more than one night with different tops to change it up. They are very comfortable which I feel is important on a cruise for a long night out and also pack very well.

Almost always a knit dress, sleeve length depending on location of cruise ;-) I'm a larger size than you and LOVE a cute dress. I wear them for work too - I don't have a vacation wardrobe ;-) I have lots that are basically t-shirts or tank tops that just....go down to below my knee:D I buy at Lands End, Target, Old Navy, JJill, Eileen Fisher (from Nordstrom or Rack, Neiman Marcus or Last Call) For cold weather travel, I have some merino wool dresses (long and short sleeve) that work great.

I know you said you don't do dresses well but I also love a cute dress! Black is always good so you can wear it more than once with a scarf, a fabulous necklace, a cool belt, etc. I also like the Chico's travelers pants (lots of other clothing lines have the same thing) also in black. Then you can bring several tops and mix it up. Leggings with nice tunic tops would work as well. And if you're in the Caribbean I might ditch some of the black and go for white and navy or more summer colors. Whatever you choose, be yourself!

I wear either pants & top, or a dress. If pants & top, they are the same colour and quite plain, and I add a scarf or a necklace for some visual interest. If a dress, it will be very plain/monochromatic, such as a long sleeved t-shirt dress. Again, I'll add some accessories.

I'd go for a pair of pants/slacks/business trousers in neutral ish colours like black grey cream or navy. Then team with a bright colourful blouse.

I've provided some links below to help.

If not wearing a dress this is what myself (35) and my mum (65) wear

What about a maxi skirt or dress? They can look casual with flats or dressed up with heels.

I love maxi skirts. They are comfortable and usually more forgiving with cruise "swelling". I've found nice skirts at Cato. Dress Barn often has nice dresses too. Both stores carry a mix of regular and plus size.

Do the cruise ships (I'll be a first-timer on RCI Liberty of the Seas) carry plus size in their clothing shops onboard?

On non formal nights, I wear dressy pants and tops, with cute flats or sandals.

For formal night I wore a cocktail dress, and my husband wore black dress slacks, with shirt and tie. He chose not to bring suites along. RCL was OK with that, as they are not as formal as they once were.

If in the Caribbean a pair of each black and white capris can be alternated with different tops. A black dress can be switched up with various scarves or jewelry to give you a different look. The black dress can also be used on dressier nights on many lines.

A pair of long pants and a top or some sort is what I wear on non-formal nights in the MDR. ;)

Me too..........pants are normally black....although the material may vary.

Black pants or white jeans with a cute top. I spray scotchguard on my white pants to keep them cleaner so I can get more use out of them. Maxi dresses are nice and easy. I always need a sweater or wrap in the dining room because I think they keep them chilly.

That's something I was going to ask, but may be much different on each ship; how cool do they keep it in the eating venues and casino.

Someone asked about plus size clothing on Liberty of the Seas. All I’ve ever seen are T-shirt’s in a plus size

:confused::confused: You'd think with the variety of people cruising, they would start offering them...

Thank you.
