Princess Cabin Reviews – NO CABIN QUESTIONS POSTED HERE PLEASE!

Recommended Posts

On Royal Caribbean, Celebrity, and NCL forums Cruise Critic members have been posting reviews of cabins on ships. It is time now for Princess cruisers to share cabin information with others.

One problem I have noticed on the other forums is the lack of a way to easily manipulate the data collected from the reviews. On the Royal Caribbean thread someone started an accessible spreadsheet that compiles the data from the reviews. I used that paradigm as a starting point for this project.

This thread provides a means for cruisers to provide reviews of cabins on Princess ships and a link to a means to easily sift through information contained in those reviews. I hope it is successful enough for the moderators to make it a “Sticky”.

The first step in the process is for Cruise Critic members to post reviews of cabins. In Posting #2 I will provide a template that can easily be used to prompt for the information to be provided. The topic of that posting will be PRINCESS CABIN REVIEW TEMPLATE (07/12/2015). It is conceivable that after some usage we may want to change the template so a new template will have a similar title with a revised date. A person wanting to use the latest template can check the spreadsheet to see what and where the latest version can be found.

The initial template will look like this:

Ship

Class

Deck

Cabin #

Category

Port/Starboard/Bow/Stern

Connects With Cabin #

Accessible

Quiet

Balcony Size

Persons posting reviews are encouraged to add pictures to reviews.

Here is some guidance to explain how some of these template items should be interpreted. Some fields require secific answers and those answers are indicated in parenthesis

Ship, Class, Deck, Stateroom, and Category – Without the name of the ship and the stateroom the remaining information collected will be useless. If you aren't sure about the deck or category the person transcribing the data to the spreadsheet will look it up.

Port/Starboard/Bow/Stern – (Port/Starboard/Bow/Stern) This information can be looked up by the transcriber if missing. The purpose is to determine where on the ship the cabin is located. A bow cabin faces the front and a stern cabin faces the rear of the ship.

Connects With Cabin # – Enter the cabin number this cabin connects with, if applicable. If it doesn't connect enter “na”.

Accessible – (Yes or No) Is this cabin a handicapped accessible cabin? You may make additional comments if you wish.

Quiet – (Yes or No) This is the first subjective response. If the cabin isn't quiet then the answer is “No” and tell why it isn't quiet. If the cabin is quiet all day but has noise from meal service one deck up from 2 AM to 6 AM it is not quiet. Please explain “No” answers.

Balcony Size – (None/Oversized/Undersized/Normal) If the cabin has no balcony please enter “None”. Balcony size is subjective and relative to different ships. If a balcony does not have room for 2 people to sit on it in chairs facing the ocean without being cramped for leg room, it should be considered “Normal”. Most of the balcony cabins on the newer ships would be considered “Undersized” by this standard but that is how they should be classified if they don't meet the definition mentioned above.

View – (Normal, None, Obstructed) If the cabin is not a balcony and doesn't otherwise have a view outside is should be classified as “None”.

Privacy Issues – If the cabin's balcony is not completely covered, if there are privacy issues with SeaWalk, or anything else that compromises privacy, please give a description.

Wind - (Yes or No) If there any unusual wind problem with the cabin the answer is “Yes” and please give an explanation.

Soot - (Yes or No) If there were problems with soot please answer “Yes” and explain if you wish.

Problems – Please describe any problems you had with the cabin and indicate if they were remedied. Keep in mind this is a review of the cabin so if you had a problem relating to your specific sailing it would be best to describe that in a review of your cruise.

Comments – Please feel free to make any comments you think other people interested in the cabin might find interesting.

The responses from the reviews will be copied to a spreadsheet located at https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1iJDFCtotsFNUvSNFzZ3LXomW95WX7R0svO7JhGRBvpo/edit?usp=sharing. You will be able to filter the data to view it many different ways.

Here is the template to use for a cabin review. Please review the definitions in Posting 1.

The data will be transcribed to a spreadsheet located at https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1iJDFCtotsFNUvSNFzZ3LXomW95WX7R0svO7JhGRBvpo/edit?usp=sharing,

One method of using using this template is to

  • click on “Quote” at the bottom right of this page
  • at the beginning of the text highlight and delete “

  • at the end of the text highlight and delete “”
  • move the cursor to each question and enter your reply
  • click “Preview Post” and check your work
  • click “Submit Reply” when you are satisfied with your responses.

Thank you for your help.

Quiet No. Especially in rough seas, the elevator shaft adjoining this cabin sounds like an echo chamber, with all noise being transferred to the forward wall of this cabin. In very rough seas, the elevator car can be heard banging against the walls of the elevator shaft.

Quiet NO! There is storage from the Princess Theater three decks below that runs upward along the fire wall which is adjacent to this cabin. Scenery is pulled up into this chamber and stored. Though it is well above the theater, every noise from it is magnified and heard in this cabin. Bass, laughter, applause...you're treated to them all.

Privacy Issues Inside cabin, but door opens directly into bedroom area. Couples might have to devise a signaling system so one of them is not caught unawares when the door is opened.

Problems Totally situational dependent on behavior of fellow cruisers

Comments This cabin is larger and has a second counter area which is very convenient. The closets have doors. The location is also convenient, being midship. However, we would not stay in it again due to privacy issues.

Comments Cabin has a loveseat. Closets have doors. There is no passenger access from Deck 3 to the forward elevators/stairway; must go aft to the back elevators/stairway. When getting off in port, must go back, up a deck, forward and then down a deck. In very rough seas, the porthole hatch is battened down and the cabin basically becomes an inside cabin. Engine Control Room is in the middle part of the ship closer to the aft elevator but causes no issues at all. Crew office is just forward of the port side corridor; also no issues. Excellent location in the event of rough seas; most stable area on the ship.

Quiet When the aft thrusters are activated, the vibration is very noticeable. Possible noise from aft pool, but we weren't in the cabin much during the day.

Balcony Size Partially covered and HUGE - 188 sq. ft.! Had a table with 4 chairs and two lounge chairs with a smaller table, and still had enough room to throw a party.

View Excellent - looking out over the wake.

Privacy Issues None, unless there's a ship following you really close. Note that there are cameras mounted one deck above at the ship's centerline that cover the stern. From their position and angle, part of the balcony would be visible. Discretion is advised. ;)

Wind not a problem

Soot not a problem

Problems Vibration from aft thrusters can rattle your fillings at times.

Comments L-shaped bathroom with sink and toilet on one side, tub and shower on the other. Doors on both sides with one at the juncture as well. Plenty of storage space, but the closet can be a little tough to reach. We'd book it again in a heartbeat!

A big THANK YOU to all of the contributors of reviews.

Also a big THANK YOU to Cruise Critic for making this thread a sticky.

Keep the reviews coming and they will get added to the spreadsheet (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1iJDFCtotsFNUvSNFzZ3LXomW95WX7R0svO7JhGRBvpo/edit?usp=sharing) as quickly as possible.

I hope this will be a great resource for cruise planning.

Quiet Very. On our Alaska itinerary, I heard no noise from above on the Lido Deck. Large overhang does produce some echoes of loud sounds on other balconies.

Balcony Size 5x9

View Unobstructed both forward and aft. The overhang does prevent looking straight up to the sky, but even in Alaska we didn't find this an issue.

Privacy Issues None, other than the usual adjoining neighbors who could be a foot away on the next balcony. No one can look down onto this balcony (including probably the bridge).

Soot not a problem

Problems Children's area is just aft of this balcony but on a summer Alaska cruise with several kids we noticed no noise or problems associated with this.

Comments Nice to be just one deck below the Lido for quick access to more expansive views of either the Panama Canal or Alaska. Conveniently located near stairwell.

Comments This window minisuite includes the square footage that would have been the balcony, so it's very spacious, with a little extra storage in an additional end table. Very convenient access to the open deck viewing area.

There is a housekeeping storage area in the nearby cross hallway. Although the cabin door of 204 is paired with C206 and thus appears on the deck plans to be opposite that, it is actually a little forward and there was no noise/disturbance in 204.

Comments Door to crew area is one cabin away at the end of the passage, but no real noise factor, just some random crew traffic up and down hall.

Occasional tugboat or barge would choose this location to park itself meaning sometimes noise and/or light from their searchlights filtering in the window.

Wouldn't want to book anywhere else -- loved this location and this cabin!
