Double Tree Tampa Bay or Hilton Tampa Downtown?

We are trying to decide between these two hotels. I like the idea of staying right on the bay but there doesn't seem to be much around that hotel. We won't have a car so will need dinner. Hilton downtown is closer to the port and has the street car near and lots of restaurants but not the views. Thoughts? We will be doing a Hilton hotel for sure because of points.

I live in the Tampa Bay area and I love living here for the views, but the reason you are here is to go on a cruise what will have the best views in the world. For convenience I would stay downtown. Like you said you will have access to the cable car, which is great. Plus there are a lot of water views from downtown you can go see.

I'm flying in to Tampa two days pre-cruise and will be traveling by myself, with no car. I'm not at all familiar with Tampa so I'd love to hear any hotel suggestions as well as recommendations for things to do on the day I will have to tour, shop, whatever.
