Talk to me about Elation and reviews

Can anyone who has been on the elation tell me if it was a particularly rocky ride?

It was very rough the end of January, the whole east coast was experiencing very strong northeast winds so the whole 5 days was fairly rough. You will definitely tell a difference between the larger ships and Elation.

Large wall mounted tv in one of the newly created balcony cabins in early November 2017. No couch in the room though.we have done 17 cruises on small and large ships. We liked Elation. Easy port to sail from. Crew was excellent.

Why was your sea day a nightmare ?

Apparently the nor'easter was effecting us. We had horrible seas! I literally could not walk in a straight line. Some of the crew said it was the worst they've seen in months. I rocked for almost a full week after I got off the boat.

Was on Elation the end of January. There are pluses and minuses. Among the pluses, by being a small ship, was so easy to find your way around, and was less crowded a lot of times. The crew and wait staff were great. The elevators were mostly pretty fast, not slow like on some of the larger ships. The food was good on lido and also MDR where we ate every night. We had two other couples with us, and we all pretty much would give the same review as this one. Two of our group used a mobility scooter and a wheel chair. The dining room staff bent over backwards to accommodate us after a rough start with being assigned Your time dining after we were all supposed to be early dining. We later found out we were bumped out because of a large group (350) being assigned early dining. Because of this, our YTD staff had us come every night at 5:45 and they moved us in first, and were at the same table every night. The people lined up outside for ytd weren't too happy with this but we appreciated it!

We all had one of the new balcony rooms added during the recent upgrade. This is where most of my minuses come in. There was a fridge and several USB ports, I think one was on the desk and two were on the bedside lamps. Plenty of closet space, but the shelves were in the open area by the cabin door, only one in a closet. The bathroom was standard size, a little different layout with the toilet being next to the sink instead of in front of it which made the bathroom seem bigger. There were the two small glass shelves for toiletries, but the sink itself was the new style with no vanity area (counter space) on it. I personally didn't like that there wasn't enough room for your toiletries, most of that stuff I had to put on the open shelves by the cabin door. The room itself was the smallest balcony room we ever had. There was no sofa or small table as in every one we've ever had, only seating was the desk stool and the bed; not too good for us older folks, lol. We ended up bringing one of the chairs off the balcony to have at least one to sit in. This may not matter to younger folks or people who don't spend a lot of time in cabin/on balcony, but it was definitely not for me.

Seas were pretty rough when we went, but that's to be expected this time of year. It was very windy and cloudy most of the trip. I actually got a bit sick which was a first for me having 19 cruises under my belt! A larger ship would have handled rough seas better.

I also will have to say the band type entertainment on this cruise was the worst ever! You know it's bad when there are plenty of empty seats by the casino bar area where they play. The casino was smoky, but tolerable. We usually didn't stay too long in the evenings, but would go early in the mornings after they opened and enjoyed it much more.

Debarkation went well, we were off the ship quickly as they had the front bank of elevators dedicated to platinum/diamond/special needs. Only glitch on debarkation was a lack of porters, took over 30 minutes after we all had our luggage to get one.

I don't think we will go on Elation again any time soon, and will go out of port Canaveral mostly. We live within an hour of Jacksonville, and two from Canaveral.

If anyone has any questions, I'll check back to see if I can answer.

I actually really enjoyed the band that played in the casino on our cruise. The guitarist, not so much. :)

We were on the first cruise after the dry dock last fall. Complete nightmare. Couldn’t get on the ship til about 11 pm, our shower backed up one night and flooded our room with about 2 inches of water, had to be moved (and split up) to 2 separate rooms on our last day. So basically our first and last days were complete wastes. Otherwise we liked the ship and food and stuff. Probably wouldn’t do another cruise coming right out of dry dock and would probably avoid the older ships. Most of our stuff was just bad luck, my only real complaint was after all we went through, they only gave us like $200 credit.

About the fridges-the fridge is under the desk, open the drawer up, and ta da there is the fridge-the secret to keeping it cold in there however, is that you have to leave the desk drawer door open (watch your knees).

I am so looking forward to getting back on the Elation in May. Except for one September cruise to the Western Caribbean this will be our first cruse and out of Jacksonville in warmer months. So I guess I will only have to pack for one season and not two.

Packing for the Elation on Monday. Can one of you who have sailed her recently tell me if there is a hair dryer in the drawer now?

I have been away from the boards for a few months with a busy new job, but started looking again as our cruise approaches. Thank you all for the info. We sailed Elation last August shortly before dry dock so I am looking forward to seeing the upgrades.

Has anyone stayed in an inside? I saw a picture and they have done away with the fake window!!😞. I can’t believe the difference it made. We love insides, but that picture I saw makes it look much smaller than before, almost like they built walls inside the former wall, making it smaller. Hopefully it is just the picture. We have an ocean view next week but an inside in August.

I ran across Cruise Critic's series of photos of Carnival Elation recently and did not even notice that. The fake window does appear to be gone. (At least these look like they were taken after drydock.) They have a good selection of photos on their website include the 360 camera shoot. Even though there is no window, the rooms do look very nice. https://www.cruisecritic.com/photos/ships/carnival-elation-5/interior-cabin-408188/

Yes, the hairdryer in the OV rooms is in the top drawer of the desk and it's plugged in there, so it doesn't come out of the desk, you use it from there. Enjoy your cruse!

Thank you for posting the link. Those are the pictures I had seen. I have never liked the look of inside rooms on the larger ships, but have never really known why. Now I think I have pinpointed it...it is the lack of window! The fake window in the Fantasy class insides really fake out the brain!
