NFL Football

I have recently booked a family trip on Celebrity Reflection in a European itinerary and realized I'd be out of the states over 2 Sundays worth of football. This is a near-unacceptable thought. Is there absolutely anywhere on board that shows any given NFL game on Sundays? Would my Sunday Ticket account work out of the country? Do I have any options at all? Thank you in advance for any advice.

I tried to use my Sunday Ticket on my IPad last year, but it does not work out of country. There will not be any games on your cabin TV, but you may find a national game on a lounge TV, say in the casino, but keep in mind you are 6-7 hours ahead of eastern time.

Certain games may be shown on your stateroom TV.

I have seen playoff and Super Bowl football in our cabin. I remember seeing a regular season game on Christmas Day 2016 in our cabin while cruising South America.

I think your chances of seeing a specific regular season game is pretty slim though.

Tell me about it! How in the world did we find ourselves booking back to back ocean cruise and river cruise this fall, such that we will be gone for about a month!

On board as we speak cruising from Singapore to Abu Dhabi. The sports channel is Sport24 and at the moment it seems very heavily football (soccer) heavy. Handy for me as I am from the uk. Cruised last year to St Petersburg but was before your season started so cannot answer with any certainty. I will ask tonight about NFL and come back to you. On your other point your iPad would work using the ships wifi and a VPN essentially tricking the server to believe you are in the USA.

Excellent point on the VPN. If only I knew how to do that! I may look into it between now and the fall. Unless my game of interest in a given week happens to be a night game, the timing should work out fine.

We had this problem (and yes, it is a problem for us football fans) last fall on the rhapsody for rccl. My husband was able to stream eagles game. Not great quality but watchable. Remember you'll be ahead 5-6 or even 7 hrs if from CST. It can be done. We are on the summit now and watching Sixers and flyers via streaming since internet has been wonderful in the Caribbean. But transatlantics are a little more complex to do. Good luck!

I suggest if football is that important, you should cancel your cruise and rebook when it Is not football season :-)

I'm now waiting for the NFL Schedule to be released so I can book our Fall Cruise on our teams bye week

It is not hard at all to do a VPN. You can practice before you leave so you get the hang of it and work out an bugs. I do remember reading that some cruise lines block VPN connections. I'm not sure if that is true or not.

When on Reflection in the Caribbean we used a VPN connection multiple times a day to view our in home video cameras. (We were pet parents of an elderly cat at the time) it worked without problem.

To the technology challenged like me, please explain how to use a VPN.

Even in the states, if we connect to our Xfinity account online when traveling it will not let us stream most of the mainstream networks - we get a message that the channel is only available while in-home (despite their advertising about watching shows anywhere/anytime, but that's a complaint for another day and even mentioning their name has my blood pressure rising already..............). Even if you can stream, it is generally not a good enough internet connection to make streaming possible (despite Celebrity advertising their expensive internet as such, but that also is a complaint for another day).

Anyway...we have seen football shown regularly - choice of one game on Sunday and then usually Monday night football. No choices of which games to watch but at least some football on your stateroom TV.

Thanks for all the info everyone. I recalled last time I was in Europe there is a stand alone Sunday ticket subscription for the EU market and was debating buying that for the trip, but a VPN seems like a much better route. Hopefully the Packers have a prime time game (or a bye week for that matter)because I have absolutely no qualms about being awake at 3 am for the trade off that it would be much more likely found on a TV somewhere.

theSHAH: Too bad we are not on the same cruise or we could watch the same game together. Go Pack!

Our experience on the Reflection in the Med during the October 2016 TA. There will be one or two select games shown on board. It’s anybody’s guess what those games will be and you’ll be stuck with whatever that game is. As stated above the Casino bar is usually the best spot.

If the internet/satellite service is good enough and whatever streaming site you are using allows it, you may be able to stream a game to your smartphone or tablet, but I would not count on it.

A subscription to NFL network will let you stream games if you are out of the country. My brother-in-law lived in France and was always able to watch the Pats.

Your brother in law undoubtedly signed up for the European NFL Sunday Ticket subscription. I know that a US NFL Sunday Ticket subscription will not work outside the US (I have previously checked) unless you use the VPN idea somebody suggested above.

Exactly, whatever you get is going to be very hit and miss for games. You may get the games when they are the only ones on such as Thursday night, Sunday night or Monday night. Occasionally they will have a special event for the playoffs or Super Bowl. We were on the Summit a few years ago on opening night, believe it was a Thursday. The game was between the Giants and Cowboys and they set up one of the rooms with a big TV and had a bar and game food. It was well attended because we sailed from NJ. Best part was no commercials.

It's actually NFL Network NFL Game Pass. Only works with a non-US based TCP/IP address. Works without VPN if you are not in the US. We used his subscription to watch a couple of games and we live in Haiti.

You are exactly right. I forgot that the non-US Game Pass has live games (the US version only shows replays).
