We are looking for a private tour for 6 people to go star gazing at Manua Kea. How long of a tour is this usually? Does it stop places on the way? We are looking for a tour that is no longer than 4-5 hours. Does anything like this exist?

Is your ship overnighting in either Kona or Hilo? If not (and assuming you are not on a land vacation) you will most likely be underway at night. Mauna Kea is sort of halfway between both Hilo and Kona and there are tours that take you all the way to the summit (where the telescopes are) but most folks stop at the visitor's center which is at 9200 ft where as the summit is about 14,000 ft and you need a 4wd to get there.

If you are on a land vacation, you can just rent a car and go to the visitor center. They have star gazing and the view is amazing. http://www.ifa.hawaii.edu/info/vis/ is the website with more info.
