Want to learn a new skill

My husband and I are heading out on the AWC soon-and I'd like to learn how to dance. I've never danced before, because I only Jr high slow dance, and it is time to move on to better things.

Does anyone know if O offers any dance classes during the trip?

Please note: if they do & you plan to join me DO NOT stand to close...

I was on the 2016 AWC and there were no dance lessons. There was opportunities to dance most nights before the show in the theatre.

You may look into dance lessons in your own area. Depending on how well you learn 4 - 6 lessons would make you good enough to move around the floor without any major issues. The pre show music/dancing time is does not draw a big crowd so don't worry about that.

There are free art lessons if you are interested in that.

A couple of times we've had members of the entertainment team give hour long or so dance lessons. On longer segments they might do that on your cruise. With X amount of the pax having so many days on board I expect there would some interest in a new activity. Make the suggestion to the CD and it might happen.

I remember dance classes of all sorts on the QE2, but nothing ever on Oceania. Then again, I wasn't looking for them!

Good luck. I think the suggestion about taking some lessons before the cruise is well taken. Ballroom dancing is NOT that hard ... of course, I'm speaking of when I was in junior high and used to be assigned the job of teaching the "motor moron" how to dance. The real teacher dealt with the rest of the class!

Seriously, the basic steps are not that hard. It does help to have a sense of rhythm, however.

Maybe things have changed recently but they always had a Russian or Ukrainian dancing couple as part of the entertainment crew and they always had dancing classes of different ball room dances as that was their background. They were always spectacular dancers.

Are they not part of the new NCL entertainment teams?

Various types of dance lessons have been offered on several of our cruises. We took lessons from the wonderful couple Paulchili references above and they were great. As mentioned, ask the CD. They have dancers onboard and the classes are always fun. On one of our TAs a passenger who was a ballroom teacher did some classes.

To avoid multiple show repeats, on the world cruise there are no production show/dancers so those cruise staff will not be aavailable to do any training.
So then no production show with dancers then for those who take the cruise segments? I don't understand how that would be. how does that reduce repeating? either something repeats or something new is shown. confused...

We were on the Singapore to Rome segment of the world cruise last year and there were production dancers and singers. There were repeats of the production shows since that segment was actually a combination of 2 smaller segments. Many RTW cruisers attended multiple repeat shows. Sometimes dance classes were offered, but it depends on the individual talents and desires of the entertainment staff, the CD and perhaps cruiser requests.

O may change how they do the entertainment from world cruise to world cruise. With a good number of passengers doing the full voyage, having multiple production shows repeating every segment would be a drag for those doing the full 180. While those doing just a segment may miss the production shows, there was a wide variety of entertainers in the main lounge. The house band played most nights pre show and passengers were welcome to dance then. There is also a chance to get a couple dances in during the return guest party.

Besides the entertainment in the lounge, there was a pianist in the bar by the casino and a string quartet by the main staircase on deck 5.

What they do in 2019 - hard to say.
