Katarina line MV Seagull

The Seagull operates 7day cruises around the Croatian coast and Islands and is captained by the owner Tom,a cool guy,

Our cruise started in Trogir,a small island which is very pretty and the short included walking tour proved interesting.

On first seeing the ship she looked sleek and attractive .The cabins are on two decks,lower & main,the lower deck cabins have a very small port hole and are rather dark whilst the main deck cabins have proper windows though not are all the same size,The forward ones have high set narrow windows which are difficult to see out of,the windows get progressively larger the nearer the stern you get with cabins 7,8,9 & 10 having the largest ones.We had No.11 with a small triangular window 12 is the same.

Although compact the cabins are well laid out with plenty of storage for 7 days and the bathroom is reasonable for a small ship but bring your own shower gel,a fixed soap dispenser is fitted by the basin but not practical to use for the shower.

The ship is designed for warm weather cruising and does not have a lounge as such with the dining room doubling up at night as a lounge but the bright lights and dining chairs do not make for a relaxing atmosphere,the bar is also here..However there is a covered seating area by the dining room with tables and chairs there is also a forward sundeck and another on the top deck.

The cruise includes walking tours and a visit to Krka national park very beautiful but it is strenuous.

There no elevators aboard only stairs,and sometimes in busy ports you tie up alongside other ships which means walking across other vessels to get ashore.

The food is pretty good for a small ship with cereal,cold cuts and 3 hot options for your 8am breakfast,tea and coffee included but during the day you have to pay for hot drinks as you do ,of course ,for alcohol.The wine measures are smaller than you might expect at 100ml per serving and cost around £3.50.Evening meals are waiter service and we enjoyed them all.

It is worth mentioning that most restaurants ashore have wine 'on tap' or house wine which usually is in 200ml measures and is quite acceptable.

We ended the cruise in Split ,a buzzing place full of history and great eateries.

This might sound as if I am constantly grumbling but this is the way it is,but I must say the crew are great,friendly and helpful they are a good team.If you want to visit this area try this cruise,the ship may not be quite perfect but the overall impression we got was very good.

Love your review of the MS Seagull. We are thinking of taking the cruise on the same ship in 2019 but through Katarina Line. Anyone have experience booking through them for the clothing optional cruise?

Late reply, but it's excellent for naturist. I'm on it right now. If you're not here, you missed out.

Tom and the crew are vey comfortable with naturist cruises and said they actually prefer them. Nude all the time outside of port, even for meals.

We read the previous review from “gollane” and much of it reflected our experiences. So as not to repeat what was already said, we will just illustrate the differences and express our views.

The Katarina Cruise check-in and check-out on Split was efficient and easy.

Our cruise originated from Split and ended there as well. Over the 7 days, we visited Pucisca on Brac, Korcula, Ubli in Lastovo, Vis, Starigrad, Bol, and Solta.

We took “gollane’s” advice and requested a cabin near the stern with big windows, which we got. That said, we were a little disappointed in the size. As our cabin consisted of a queen bed, there was little room to move around. I think we would have preferred 2 separate beds with an isle in between so we could push our luggage under each bed. We found there was a lack of storage shelves in the closet. So we resorted to leaving most of our belongings in our open suitcases, sliding it in and out each time we needed something.

It was hot during our cruise, so we discovered the cabin AC barely kept up. It was also annoying that each time the ship switched to/from shore power, the AC would turn off. If you didn’t catch this and reset the AC, you will return to a boiler room of 35 degrees and it would take forever to cool it. This also happened a few times during the night. In addition, after a few days, we noticed keeping the bathroom door shut helped with the AC, but this just meant going into a very warm bathroom each time.

Wifi was strongest on main deck in the dining room. In our cabin, the signal strength was very weak and spotty. I was told people residing in the lower deck faired worse. Simply adding another access point in the lower deck would rectify this problem.

We spent most of our time on the upper sundeck. There is also a smaller sundeck on the bow, but it was usually fully occupied. Many of us would have liked to see the availability of a covered area on the sundeck should we choose a reprieve from the hot sun.

Breakfast was usually served at 8am and was plentiful. However, the variety of food didn’t vary from day to day. Lunch was served around 12:30 each day, either just before or after a swim stop.

It would have been nice if they served coffee or tea throughout the day instead of set time of 3-4pm. But unlike what was indicated in the cruise brochure and by passengers on other cruises, we had unlimited water on board in a form of a dispenser. During our hot days, this was well appreciated.

We had the Captain’s dinner on our 3^rd night and BBQ dinner on board on our last night. Both were good.

Tom was our captain and owner of the Seagull. The rest of his crew of 6 are all related to him one way or another. We have to say they were all outstanding and always ready and willing to please.  Tom always kept us informed where we were heading, what to expect, time of arrival and departure at each port, and any changes to the itinerary due to weather or traffic.

If you’re expecting a luxury cruise, this isn’t for you. There are limited amenities on board, the food is about average, and the ship could use a little refreshing in some parts. Otherwise, the ship was kept very clean throughout as we saw the crew mopping the floors, wiping tailings and tables daily.

Visiting all the different islands and ports and watching sunset each night was the highlight of our cruise.

Croatia and its many islands are truly spectacular. As we have been to the Italian and French Riviera, the few islands and ports we visited on this cruise rival them all. Go experience Croatia before it gets too expensive like the rest of Europe.

All in all, we had a wonderful time and met some wonderful people from all parts of the world.
