Anyone Win_Casino

Has anyone ever won any money in the casino or are the odds tipped heavily towards the ships favor?

Most slot machines are made by IGT in Nevada, and have a set a payout rate that favors the house. In Nevada all slot machines must have a payout rate governed by the Nevada gaming commission. I don't think there is anyone who can control gaming in International waters. so the payout rate could be even slimmer in a casino on a ship. there is a equal chance of hitting a jackpot on every spin on a slot, there is no such thing as a hot machine or a machine that is ready to hit. There is some skill involved in playing video poker just as playing table games, it helps to really know the rules. having worked in the casino industry at Lake Tahoe for years the one thing I know is that the house awalys wins. Every 3 months or so the local paper prints a story on how much the casinos win (there win is our loss) in a given time it is in the Billions of dollers per year. so that said yes people do win in casinos if no body won no one would play.

Every game has a built-in advantage for the house. It varies from an almost 50:50 split on blackjack to what can be a huge advantage on some slots. The longer you play, the longer you are exposed to the house advantage. What an individual player does is immaterial. The casino relies on lots of people playing for extended periods of time, and the math is in their favor.

some lines are regulated by such casinos as Caesars and Harrahs, so by law those machines must pay out the same in Vegas, Mississippi or on the ship. some lines regulate their own, and although by law they must be fair, it may not be quite the same.

Nice thing about tables is that you can't regulate payoffs (ethically, anyway), the odds do it.

My mom has won a nice jackpot on a cruise. She gambles quite a bit in "real life", not so much on ship. Has taken 5 cruises.

She says the best deals are the slot/blackjack tournaments. $10 to enter, and you get to play for awhile--that's all I want!

my mom won 2500 on the first cruise in the first hour on the Sensation. My SO won 500 on our Voyager cruise last year. Dont play to win but to have fun- if you win it makes it better.

I don't usually play the slots due to low payout, however the seemingly impossible does happen. I hit a 6/5 video poker for a Royal, since it wasn't set for hand pay, I got 4000 quarters, that's eight buckets worth. Wife hit Wheel of Fortune for $1000 once on the bonus round.

But now, we mostly play blackjack or craps and usually win a little or break even for the week.

Last year, my husband won $4,000 on a dollar slot machine on the Victory.:D

The funny thing is, he never plays slot machines, but he was having a losing streak on the blackjack table so he thought..."oh heck...I'll take $20 and put it in a machine." After about $10 worth he hit the jackpot! After that, his luck changed. He won back his losses on the blackjack table and we came home winners! Pretty much paid for our cruise (there were 4 of us).

Another time, on the Voyager, I don't know exactly how much he won playing blackjack, but he surprised me with 2 Lladro figurines and 6 other figurines (I collect figurines of cats...he would have bought more if the ship had more.) ....he must have spent a good $700 or more on those items AND he had more money leftover.

However...the last cruise....he broke even...no big winnings that time :( .

I usually come out ahead, or break even on the slots. For me it's a way to pass time while my SO is getting ready for dinner. I like to play both the slot & blackjack tournaments. There both fun, even though I have never won the slots, I did take 2nd place (a little under $300) at blackjack on our last cruise.

  • 6 months later...

We have cruised four times, and as with any casino, I believe all odds are with the house. However, I managed to win $15000.00 on a dollar slot on the Carnival Triumph!:) I have found, if you want to play slots, the best things to try are the $1.00 slots - play them in a "hit & run" style! GOOD LUCK!:)

On my very first cruise I won $300.00 on a quarter machine. So I thought well this is not bad. Since then I have gone on many more cruises and guess what, have not won a dang thing but hey I was happy anyway because I was on a cruise.

I usually play craps late into the night when the table is full of other serious "shooters". On most of our cruises I cover our cruise card expenses and tips at the craps table. I could actually take money home in most cases but my wife keeps coming around looking for money to feed into the damn slot machines.:)

nhcruiser, craps is my favorite pastime on the ship. Last cruise on the Veendam some nights couldn't get more than two at the table, often nobody. Me and my DW standing there playing craps alone is not really much fun. On the Caribbean Princess, couldn't get a spot at the table.

I would have thought that the older cruisers would be into craps from their WWII days.

Curt,

I am surprised as well. One would expect that you would find a crowd at least one night during the cruise. On the Golden Princess last fall, out of San Juan, we had several Puerto Rican gentlemen that showed up after second seating every night. Those guys would not speak a word of English but were ready to gamble along with several others like myself. On the last night one of these guys gets the dice and starts throwing numbers for 45 minutes without crapping out. He made his point at least 6 times. I covered the cost of the cruise on that run alone! He was so steady that I thought that they were going to close the table on us.

We were on the CP in March. 13 in our group, and we all walked away winners from the casino. I won about $130 playing BlackJack. Most of the winners ranged from $75-400. Anytime you are ahead is good in my book....

Say you sit down at the blackjack table with $100 and win a few hands and are up $20 to $120, that's a 20% return on your money. Hard to do that in the stockmarket or bank.

How many of us will get up and leave?

I've actually done it at the craps table. While in Vegas, waiting for my DW to come down for breakfast, did a few rolls at the craps table and made a quick $40 then walked away for breakfast.

Knowing when to quit is one of the keys to gambling.

It is my understanding, that on cruise ships the payouts are much tighter than in Las Vegas so I never play slots. As for the table games the odds are the same but watch the payouts. I stick to craps unless I have one too many then I get stupid and go for the slot machines. While some people do hit overall I have had horrific luck on slots my entire life.
