summer 2019 British Isles or Iceland cruises?

Why they have left it this late is indeed the question.

I suppose the best answer I can come up with is that it probably isn't as big a deal as we think it is. Most of my friends are still deciding what they are doing for a holiday this Summer, so the fact that 2019 itineraries aren't out is no big deal. I'm sure they will still sell them well whenever they release them.

Purely speculatively, perhaps they have to be a bit behind others, because most other lines have longer standing relationships with these ports than NCL do. Maybe they have to wait until later once the ports know what their better customers require. I did wonder whether fitting in the ports was a factor in all the changes in 2017.

That is probably totally wrong, but you never know.

Hi I have (sad I know) been reading various press reports for work and I came across one dated 7 February from Royal and if there was any doubt about the reason NCL is holding back this sorts of supports my opinion. Royal have changed the UK due to an improvement in the £/$ rate. If they are not selling the ships (Spirit and Sun) then this is the most likely reason MONEY. It is also reported on cruisedotcodotuk

No changes NCL is controlled from Miami.... and new management in Europe. That explains delays possibly if not currency rates. My bet it is pulled.

I see there is a new (boring) TA listed for the Encore now. But, not what we are looking for.

I think we will book the Princess Iceland TA as a fallback. Who know how much longer NCL will take for the rest of their Europe schedule!

I think it is also worth noting that in late January NCL changed a few of the 7-night sailings to Norway to 6 and 9-night sailings for 2019. They don't seem to be selling very quickly.

I am very impressed with you all who can book vacation/holiday so far in advance. I booked one summer 2018 cruise last week and I am thinking about one or two others. I know I need to be in America for my brother's wedding this summer but I have no solid plans for that at all! I wish I could plan so far in advance.

  • 2 weeks later...
Any news on Easter school holiday days for Europe anyone? Ideally 13/04 onwards?

That cruise certificate is burning a hole in my pocket;)

That will also be the Spirit, so we are still waiting along with the Summer Iceland itineraries.

As for what the Easter itineraries will be, it may still be Canary Islands (but is a bit later than those cruises usually finish), the Spirit May be on its way to Southampton, or it may be something completely different.

I called because I've been waiting too, and they told me a few more months. ;p;p;p;p;pLOL

They don’t know. It could be on Monday or it could be six months time, the phone reps will only find out at about the time we do.

Age is irrelevant it is beautiful ship with the best Hotel Director if he is still on that ship . Mr Armando D Silva. I would pay just to sail with him.

I was on the Spirit earlier this year, and he is still there!

None of the itineraries ex Southampton seem to be selling well. I think the massive refurbishment of Jade was meant to open a market from that port and the market did not respond. NCL responded my replacing Jade with Spirit, and ultimately they may have decided that the reduction in capacity was insufficient.

Having sailed P&O a couple times, I can say that NCL was duplicating a lot of their itineraries. Perhaps the British were more loyal to P&O than NCL anticipated.

This is exactly what I have been saying but calling it Brexit. NCL can not compete in the UK with their prices and the fact that P&O charge in the good old pound sterling (still the best currency in Europe) may be having an effect. But NCL prices are now in line with the 5* lines and they do not stand a chance with the UK market.

In summary - a great point well made.

Why not rent an apt or house through VRBO and do a land tour of Iceland. Last August we did just that and it was incredible. You would see so much more. We flew to Britain on Icelandair which gives you a free stopover in Iceland if you wish. Wonderful, comfortable airline. Lovely people. We flew on to Britain and stayed a week or ten days, and dropped down to Southampton where we picked up our Norway cruise. Worked out perfectly.

In March 2017 we did a land vacation going to Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland and Iceland. We included stays at the Ice Hotel and the Snow Hotel. As well as a short 5 day Norwegian Coast Cruise on Hurtigruten. We saw the Northern Lights. We lived out of our suite cases and it included thirteen flights. Although fabulous, I was hoping for Ireland and Scotland whether or not it ends up in Iceland.

My guess is that this will not happen in 2019 for NCL.

I was told last week on the Escape by the CruiseNext department that all itineraries will be out by the end of March.

From past experience they seem the last to know.

2015 and 16 we were on ships in December and saw posting here of the newly released routes and the folks on the ship had no clue. Told one guy that BA was going to Baltics and he said "no, that is not right and will never happen". Well it did and probably a week later he got the news.

This is interesting. I am sailing on the Jade around the fjords this year in late summer, 9 days for 1049 GBP premium all inclusive package, (so that’s all gratuities, beverage package including water and specialist coffees, $25 pp spend voucher, 1 litre of bottled water each day pp, plus some free phone calls and internet time. 7 days with P & O, same type cabin would cost 1489 GBP, no extras. I sailed on the Spirit last summer and again in January 2018, with the same package so on both occasions my onboard spend was less than £20.

I am on the Jade at the end of July for 9 days and August for 11. Both were comped by the casino when I had called before they had said 2200 USD for the 11 night. I don't have all inclusive but that is a good deal as well!

It is great to see this cruise become available. My only problem with this itinerary is that the airfares to Copenhagen appear to be more expensive than other northern european ports. Can anyone recommend a lower cost alternative to getting to Copenhagen?
