Sails or Limited Sails

As EM mentioned, you will get better responses on the Windstar Board.

However, in general many variables will impact the use of the sails. These variables will depend on any ports enroute, which will determine the routing.

The shortest distance is a great circle routing, which heads North, coinciding with the Gulf Stream current. Local surface trade winds are NE'ly, which results in inflow winds to the Equator being deflected by the earth's rotation. From about 30N, the trade winds change to SW'ly.

Not sure how close the ship can sail into the wind, but with technology, I suspect it will be fairly close. Based on the trade winds, you should get a reasonable proportion under sail.
