Here is amishmash review of our trip on the Carnival Dream, Oct 29. 2017

Day 0. Leavehome a day early (Saturday) and stop in Lumberton MS for one of the best shrimpPo’boy’s you can find. Fiorella’s. Worth the stop. By chance, we met a couplefrom Georgia there and they were doing the same thing, going on the same cruiseas us.

Day 1,debarkation. Showed up at the parking deck at 11:00. Our boarding time was11:30, so when we got to the door at 11:15 I was a bit worried, but they let usright in. No big crowds. They had more security screeners working than therewere people in line so we breezed thru that. Then a 5 minute line to get oursail and sign cards, followed by a 2 minute wait before our zone was called toboard. We were on the ship at 11:50 and sitting with a Guy burger by12:20. Went to check the room at 1:00and it was ready. We found our luggage on a cart down by the elevators and theporter was more than happy to hand them to us.

Room: wewere deck 7, midship, starboard, DIRECTLY across from the laundry and justaround the corner from the elevators. We heard no noise or smells or anythinguntil the very last sea day. That day everyone was talking, yelling, doinglaundry, running, screaming and you get the picture.

Shows: Wehave late dining, and catch the early show every day. They were all excellentshows, but I didn’t really care for all the interpretive dance vibe during the “Flick”show. My wife loved it, though.

Food: didGuy’s burgers on day one. The first sea day we found and had the 3:00 tea time. That was fun, but every day after we did our own modified tea time. We would get a plate of guyfries, and have a Coke Zero with it while playing cards.

Guy’s BBQ:first sea day we had that for lunch. Very good sides, good BBQ. After the firstday, word got out and the line was more than we wanted to deal with.

Sushi. Greatand the price wasn’t bad at all.

Now thebummer. I was wanting to get to the pasta bar all week. On the last sea day wemade it. Arrived around 12:15 and were given #45. We sat and noticed they werebringing food to #26. At 1:00, 45 minutes later lucky number 35 got their food.I did the math, and walked. It’s still on my bucket list, but not this trip. Timeis money.

Ports andexcursions: Montego Bay, Jamaica was first. We did Sunscape Splash thru resortfor a day. Not a bad price. We had a bus load go over there. First we tried thebeach. Cloudy water, and once you get out to waist deep, the bottom turned to 2”muck/mud. So we walked over to the pool area. They had 3 pools, and we got inthe adult only pool. For the next 2 hours we had that large pool to ourselves.Swim up bar, with drinks included. We had non-alcohol strawberry daiquiris. They were so good. The lunch buffet was good. Eating jerk chicken in Jamaica witha beach side seat and cool breeze is a life event. All in all though, the wholeport experience was sad, poor, and it moved Progresso off the bottom of my portlist.

GrandCayman: we swam with the stingrays of course. I kissed a stingray. I held astingray. I petted a stingray. And if just one picture from my underwatercamera turns out I’ll be happy. Why doesn’t the dream or other big ships offerone hour photo services? Or do they? Then we walked around the city area andshopped, ate, and watched some guy clean fish on the beach. All in all, I lovethat port.

Cozumel. We’vebeen there many times. No excursions. Just hung out, shopped, ate, and had agreat day as usual. The highlight had to be at 5:30. Folks were just slowwalking back to the ship. A group was on deck 5 and wanting the ship to getunderway so they could, and I quote, “Get me a burrito, and the casino!” So aseach person or groups of persons would come out of the duty free shop, wouldthey go straight to the Conquest or Splendor, or turn for us in the Dream. As agroup would turn, the deck folks would start shouting. Soon all the balconieswere involved. This went on until 6:00. Leave them leave them, leave them.. Itwas a chant. Fun times. And of course, you get that many southerners outsideshouting, and it is just matter of time until somebody yells “Roll Tide!” Thatis followed by War Eagle, WhoDat, and a few others. I loved it all. Side note, there were 7 ships at Cozumel on Friday. Carnival Dream, Conquest, and Splendor.Royal Liberty and Oasis. MSC Opera, and the line with all the painting on thefront.

Entertainment.Loved all the venues to see live music on the Dream. Ocean Plaza was ourfavorite. One question: if you can’t sing before you get on the ship, do youthink a few drinks will suddenly give you that skill? Karaoke was fun. One outof every 4 or 5 could actually sing. Some bad singers are fun to watch, butothers… Oh my. It’s painful. Shoot menow.

Criticism #1:Who thought out putting the Scarlett dining room on a deck (3) with no directaccess to it? How did this make it out of the CDR before the ship was built? Onlythe aft elevators and stairs would get you there. Every night it was a mob atthe elevators. My hack – take the midship elevator down to deck 2, walk thelong hallway aft, and up one flight of stairs to the entrance. It took me 2days to figure that out and I give it away for free.

Criticism #2:I knew there was only one plug, but at least put it by the bed for us CPAPusers.

Criticism#3: who is the brain trust that put aroom light switch on the headboard of the bed? Again I ask, how did this get bythe CDR before steel was welded?

3 complaintsisn’t that much, and the good outweighed those 3 by tons.

Final thought: I didn't know Halloween was such a big thing on cruise ships. Some really well done costumes, and a few that just can't be unseen, such as the fat old hairy dude in nothing but a diper.

How was the live music on the ship?

BTW, the aft dining room is like that on every Carnival ship except the Spirit class.

We love the live music. the heinous horns were great. They could get a crowd rocking. There was a young duo that sang popular music. We really liked them. Mostly, whoever was playing in the Ocean Plaza at the time was our fave. Oh yeah, shout out to a crazy violin trio. Those guys threw down.

As for dining rooms, our other cruises have all been on Fantasy class ships and the access to everything is just much easier on that class.

I LOVED them! I think they were called the Spiccato Trio? They were so amazing! I wish I could find some recordings of theirs, I'd buy it!

. I took the video because I was also in love with the couple who were dancing to them.
