Do Epic Haven Suites Have DVD Players?

We usually cruise with Royal Caribbean every year at Christmas in a suite. This is our first cruise on NCL.

RCL suites have Sony playstations which we use to play a fireplace DVD during the holidays. Do NCL Haven suites have DVD players? Thanks.

The Epic has DVD players in the suites. We were on it twice in the last year.

Yes they have DVD players. This is not new. Played a DVD in 2010 in a penthouse suite on Epic. The concierge even has DVD movies to watch.

While this is a question re Epic I think some of the differing responses are popping up because NCL has been changing out dvd players to the PPV on ships that have gone through drydock the recent couple years.

On other ships that haven't gone through a recent drydock they have added PPV and still have the dvd players. Ultimately all dvd players will be gone IMO.

It is best to inquire here or from NCL directly about if your stateroom on an upcoming cruise will have a DVD

player device either separately or in a slot on the side of the upgraded flat screen TV.

The trend when a ship goes through a major dry-dock refurbishing is to ditch the bulky awkward CRT TV and

replace with a slim fitting Flat Screen.

Only the upscale (suites Haven) staterooms have or had the DVD system and the move now is to having the

DVD movies formerly on the DVD disk available thru the butler are now on the in house cable TV on demand.

The complimentary viewing of movies is still in the suites and havens.

The wiring on the back of the flat screen is conservative and may or may not permit plug and play your own

video equipment. Not many travelers carry a laptop with DVD capability - the Ipads and tablets may or may

not be functional in showing your own movies on NCL TVs - even the flash drives are questionable.

Ask a question here - maybe a recent CC traveler can provide the answer you need about a specific cabin.

CAUTION about disconnecting the cable to the TV rendering the emergency broadcast of information over

a TV channel.

Most ships have TV software set so that you can access your on board account to view charges credits and

make restaurant and shore excursions reservations.

With the age of ships spanning nearly 20 years not all the improvements are made in a uniform way.

The set up on the -AWAY class ships is not the same as the SKY - SUN etc. but for sure bulky CRT TVs are dinosaurs.

The Epic has flat screens since new.

NCL switched to flatscreens only during the Jewel ships.

Stands to reason that the new ships would have the latest in video

gear and eliminate the need for separate DVD players. With video

on demand no need for DVD disks which in some cases were prone

to playing problems with regional codes.

Sometime after 2013 the old ships going in for dry-dock servicing

the TVs were changed to the flat screen concept.

Sailed on the NCL SUN 7/2013 in a minisuite and had a harvey

headbanging bulky CRT over the small desk. Recent cruise on

the SUN and everything is flat screen now - oh so much better !
