thanks for all the info and pictures , the cabins do look small but I think ive been spoilt with spacious MSC cabins, Im really excited about our cruise and your posts make me even more excited

Thank you for this thread, Tiger-1! I will be taking this cruise in February as a solo cruiser and appreciate you providing the ongoing details of your trip. TDoes the Horizon have an walking/jogging track?

there is no official track, however deck 8 is typical veranda u shaped most of the ship except theatre. Good for walking. But lots of smokers!

And deck 12 has a full ellipse, but dodging sunbathers...

But at non peak hours it would work.

 

Many of the Canary ports have good running paths along the shore.

Depends on your level of comfort. it doesn't seem to be forbidden, as there are lots of taxis. You can't really walk from the ship. The port is too remote.

And Agadir has a huge beach.

I went on a ship's excursion both tinted.

The first tour I took I enjoyed. I traveled with a dinner table mate who'd done the same tour the previous week, so she let me know what to expect.

It was called:

FASCINATING AGADIR

Check out sights including the central post office, the new council and the court of justice. During the tour make sure to check out the 'Fantasy' show, a highlight of the Berber lifestyle.

 

You're mostly on a bus. And they make you check out the Fantasy show (no choice as implied) but it's terrific. Get a good view front and center, where the carpet is laid out on the bricks. Skip the biscuits. Grab a tea to go. Skip the bazaar shopping. Securing a seat is most important.

And you'll get a short stop at a souk for more shopping. And you'll stop at a "pharmacy" where they'll describe and let you sample the miracle cure-all Argan oil and all its lotions and perfumes. Read up on it because they supposedly have great prices. Also check on US customs limitations on spices packaging and what not. I didn't buy anything.

Finally you'll go to the Kasbah where LOTS of hawkers will be. Don't touch any animal or take any photos noticeably of the animals. The owners will demand a gratuity. (In fact anywhere in Morrocco, uninvited photos of humans seem to be frowned upon and some will demand a gratuity.) And if you show any interest, will follow you the entire visit. Unless of course you Are interested and willing to pay. They are earning a living.

 

 

For the next week, I splurged and took the 11 (for us 12) hour tour to Marrakech.

They talk a lot in the description, but you really just go to the Bahia, the lunch restaurant and then a "pharmacy" inside the souk where again they talk about the wonders of Argan oil. I asked politely to just skip the pharmacy and toured the souk alone, after confirming the bus location (the aforementioned square) and meetup time, 3:30 which turned into 4 when people leaving the pharmacy protested at their short souk time.

It was very interesting and depressing seeing all these vendors selling such similar stuff. The Agadir souk was enough of an experience for me to match Marrakech. However a real shopper would probably demand the more choices at Marrakech. There were some nice actual, real shops rather than stalls in the souk too. I even happened upon the chicken area where there were a dozen of stalls of live chickens.

The others had a much shorter time in the souk. And a couple got lost. Somehow the guide found them and we arrived at port an hour after sailaway!

 

 

I noticed at our pit stop on the way, that a much smaller bus was carrying a group of passengers with no numbered stickers on their shirts. A member of the Shore Excursions team was walking about and he said they were on a private tour, not a ship's tour. There were about 15 of them. My point is that you can do a private Marrakech tour. Their guide was in full Morroccon garb.

 

Edited to add the lunch was terrific. Delicious, abundant, and nice entertainment from drummers and ladies.

the guide said to just use euros and not withdraw dirahms from the atm because dirahms are worthless outside the country and can't be exchanged.

 

So based on that one guy's statement I'd guess the ship has none, and the best way to obtain them is through an ATM within the country. Just withdraw a little at a time, maybe.

 

Of course where the tour goes, vendors accept euros. Not sure about normal stores in town.

I saw only taxis. There might have been an "excursion" for a transfer bus. They had them on some islands to a beach.

 

The only free shuttle bus I saw was on Fuerteventura. it went basically to Playa Chica ---- not very far. But it wasn't advertised in the planner.

Not sure what you're asking. Smoking is allowed in designated areas. Those areas that I know of are the lifeboat level outside deck, half of pool area dining, half of pool bar, half of pool padded seating area. I can't remember any indoor areas. Definitely not any lounges or even the casino.

Most of the smokers seemed to be British.

 

There are permanent ashtrays in the hallways though! A remnant of times gone by.....

above the pool bar on most cruise ships is yet another bar. However on the horizon it is a waffle station. (the picture looks like waffles, but they call them crepes.)

Yes out in the cold air they will make waffles for you. For a fee.

The coffee bar sells food too. Tapas are wrapped in cellophane and on display in a hutch.

Because there are no specialty restaurants, you can upgrade your dinner any night with these options. Some nights they are on special for a different price.

The indoor Buffet tables have these chips that you are to put on your table when you leave. I, a solo, tested one time by using the red disk and unfortunately, sure enough my used silverware and used plate were taken away but my table remained empty. I had to get up again to retrieve more silverware.

I didn't purchase the wifi and don't know the answer.
