NCL Casino At Seas Tiers

I had two friends playing slots (with my money and my cards) while I played tables, all with the permission of the Executive Casino Host last week on the Dawn. It allowed me to finally hit Elite! Just ask at the Players Club.

I have been "Elite" for over three years now....and not sure what the big deal is. If you have things to share, I am ALL ears! And my husband has his own account AND uses his own card...and is one level below? So in other words no one other than me is using my card....just curious as to what you found to be beneficial about the "Elite" status. I have found it to be completely underwhelming! But MAY ask for a limo to the airport in Barcelona on next trip!

Well not ELITE here, but not bottom either. Recently it seems NCL CAS has gotten "horsey". Some of our vouchers come through Harrah's. Some with NCL CAS. I had one offer that was good through Nov. I already had early Dec 9 day booked. Said could use it after the 9 day. Phoned in, then the story was "sorry" "no deal"

Next had a Harrahs good through Mar 31. We can't get away in March asked repeatedly to change to April 1 sailing. Nope !

This brings me to a Jan RCCL sailing. Played in their casino. Had VIP drinks. Anything they had. A week after getting back home. I phoned Royale casino and booked 2 more balcony room cruises for taxes only. Which are cheaper than NCL. Paid $180 for the 7 day. $200 for the 9 day.

Hmmm ? I have one more NCL cruise I am fixing to do. Will see how that goes.

That sounds promising! We have enjoyed 15+ RCCL cruises over the past 10 years BUT have continued to cruise more with NCl due to the offers from CAS. If RCCL decided to be as generous, etc. as NCL....we would for sure give them a try. But this was NOT the case in years past. And our Vegas casino host is at the Wynn and there is no reciprocity between the Wynn and cruise lines so far.

Would love for you to give a more "apples to apples" comparison regarding offers from CAS and RCCL......if that is doable! Thanks for sharing!

They are rolling out a new card program. We will see.

The last drink program was play 1,000 points and get VIP drinks. Not the bottom stuff NCL offers. The 1,000 points on the current also counted for the next cruise.

As a long time casino visitor in Law Vegas, Atlantic City and elsewhere what you said is Not True. Go ahead get duplicate cards and reap the rewards

I never said YOU cannot get a second card, I said you cannot have 2 different people playing on those cards.

FYI if you take total rewards (since they have the biggest presence in AC as an example) a companion tier card is only issued to 7 stars players. Using your logic as example, explain why it was ok for 2 people to use the same card when only the top tier is issued a companion card directly from the casino. Easy, it is not allowed.

The reason TR does that is there is no higher tier to bump someone’s play up to since they are already there and it’s also a courtesy to a whale level player.

If you choose to take your chances, good luck with that but the rules are you cannot use someone else’s card to bump up your tier level.

Cathy. Bill received a companion card with my diamond status but it has his card number not mine. When I turned seven stars same thing new companion card under seven stars with his number not mine. That said when he plays he uses my card my hosts know and so did my old host at Taj. He once hit a handpay at the Rio in Vegas using my card there was no problem with it. Maybe it’s different for husbands and wives than friends

I know someone who received a lifetime ban for doing this, it was his sisters card.

I know lots of TR players that play using only their spouses card. Everyone in TR marketing knows this goes on. Yes the spouse/companion player does have their own TR number. They just don't use their card.

Heads up, new rules, some Diamond lounges will admit a Companion, but not serve them unless their sponsor is present.

That would pretty silly. Why get a companion card for someone if you need to be present. If your going with someone the companion doesn’t need a companion card then lol

Companion cards are only good for valet, food lines, check ins, and seven star and diamond lounges.

I re-read the email from Harrah's New Orleans. They will allow access for food but not drinks. Unless said companion is Diamond level already.

Well I guess it’s different in AC and Vegas. My husband used his companion card to go to the bar without me at both locations

  • 4 weeks later...

What is the concern about couples both using the same player's card, anyway?

Let's say husband and wife each play an hour of slots at the same time (with one using a duplicate card in the other's name). Is that somehow worse for the casino than just one of them playing slots for two hours on their own? Or for that matter if just one of them played for the same hour and simply doubled their bet size?

How is the casino losing out here?

Update: We were at Harrah's New Orleans last week of April. Have to present your card and ID to host outside the door. Then tell them how many drinks you want. They then print a drink slip. Inside the Diamond Lounge. The waitress picks up the drink slip. We only got a drink each. Don't know what waitress would have done had we asked for more drinks.

Getting to be a nickel and dime outfit like NCL.

Does the New Orleans Diamond Lounge (Palm Room) still have the small buffet set up inside? You used to order from a small plates menu, but SevenStar Insider has reported they were trying out a small buffet selection. Not sure how good that we be. We always loved the small plates we could order.

It also reports that SevenStar cardholders are limited to 8 cocktails per party and Diamond are limited to 4 cocktails per party. It sounds like they didn't really point that out to you. A SevenStar and Diamond couple could get up to 12 cocktails per day (in addition to all the free drinks you can order at the slots or tables).

I know that seems strange but from some of our prior visits to NOLA we would see people camped out all day at tables in that small lounge making it very hard to get a table. From our viewpoint it should make it easier for more of us to enjoy that room if others aren't spending the day there without some sort of limit in service.

Because if 2 people are using the same card one card will tier up to a higher tier activating free drinks, OBC and other perks. 2 people playing on their own neither will active the tier up bonuses. It is easy for 2 people to get 5001 points which would tier them up to Pearl for up to 2 years potentially (depending on sail date).

I guess as a simple example, how is the casino worse off if a husband and wife are both playing nickel slots to get there rather than just the husband playing dime slots for the same length of time? If the casino has decided at X points the house edge is sufficient to justify comping Y to the player with the house still coming out ahead then the manner in which that play is split shouldn't matter.

One might argue that if the casino is running at capacity then in my example two machines are tied up instead of one, but a single player could play two machines next to each other and accomplish the same effect.

Now if the casino had set things up where it was almost impossible for a single player to hit X points during a cruise and Y was a new car (with the challenge being that even if the player spent every waking minute they could in the casino it would be hard to hit X) then I could see where adding a second player would hurt the casino financially, but I'm not used to them structuring promos in that way.

I could see the casino being hurt by a sneaky player who snuck their card into a machine someone else not connected to them was playing (perhaps by "forgetting" to take it out when they're done). I was always of the impression that this was what casinos were trying to prevent when they put things in their terms and conditions saying the player must use their own card.

I'll admit I could be wrong about this, but I just can't imagine a casino setting up a comps program where doubling the amount of time spent at a slot machine (which is what having your spouse use your card is effectively doing) favors the player rather than the casino. You mention achieving higher tiers and free obc, but are those tiers actually more costly to the casino than the profit they receive from the additional action involved in achieving them?

They stopped the small menu. They have a small buffet. Like salad, soup, pasta, cookies, and pralines. Basically some stuff that was on the regular buffet, except for the pralines.

Yes some would stay in there. I don't know how as they had been on that 4/8 drink policy for the property the last several years.

We have just never been a big fan of the Palm Room.

I don't know how one is suppose to guess the number of drinks before sitting down ?

Good point! And thinking about it, the ongoing buffet instead of a limited number of small plates might just encourage some of them to stay longer.

We fly in Friday so thanks for the update. It's such a beautiful city & hotel we always enjoy it there. Just a few nights this time, but looking forward to our November cruise out of NOLA:cool:

Oh, some casino employees told us they are in cost control mode down there. Some cuts Jan 1, more April 1.

Hotel is fine....except for the morning train blowing that horn ! Have been hearing that for years. We stayed 3 nights. Went to Commanders Palace, Antoines, and Adelaide.

Got lucky as Tall ships were in. Also the Navy. USS Kearsarge tour. A French and Canadian destroyers were docked too. Nice to see all the sailors in town, and on deck. 300th anniversary for New Orleans.

We will be back June 14 for 4 nights I think.

No NCL cruises booked thus far. Do have two RCCL booked, and paid for.

Are they cutting back on employees? Or did you notice changes in the hotel or casino? We've always loved the staff there.....so very friendly!

Would have loved to see the tall ships! Our favorite cruises of all time were a couple of 'Barefoot' cruises on WindJammer many years ago....before the company went bankrupt. With the 300th anniversary maybe there will be some special things happening this next week to celebrate.

Cuts are in the casino, and restaurants there. Hotel was fine.

CET Vegas has made a lot of cuts over the last couple of years too. Buffets are mostly gutted now and limited hours. Sad for all of the great employees we have known over the years.

Speaking of Vegas. The casino workers take a strike vote soon, like May 22.

Caesars Windsor workers have been on strike since early April. All concerts and hotel resevs been cancelled through May 31.

Vegas is not what it used to be. First stay there was like 1971. Sure enjoyed it more before corporate bean counters ruined it.

Back to NOLA. Tennessee Williams said "There are 3 cities in America. New York, San Francisco, and New Orleans. All the rest are just Cleveland."

Have fun there.

Not a surprise that CET got sold
