Just back from Oasis western cruise

I will start with all the positives...I hope I don't confuse anyone with my writing techniques I tend to skip around a lot...lol

The first dinner someone from the staff made a speech saying the week before sailing had about 5500 people and the one I was on had about 6500 people....That being said not once did I wait in a line for food, I always got a table in windjammers I went in different times. I did have to wait 5 or 10 mins for my dinner only because I missed my reservation (opps) lol. For the amount of people on with us it actually felt less crowded than all other cruise ships I have been on. The only important thing is def. make reservations for the shows.

Well it was a awesome week...The ship is amazing and a destination in itself! For the most part it was clean in the public areas( the kids areas were a completely different story) I went to the wipeout cafe once it was trashed food and dishes and trash everywhere...I expect more from royal Caribbean...but this was a holiday sailing so the ship was over run with kids. Central park was my favorite location in the ship. There is always something to do somewhere.

The food just like anywhere else is hit or miss for the most part it was okay. I was not able to get into any special dinning just giovannis table which was okay. I just liked the fact that I was able to go eat and find a table with my family every time.

I also was able to always get a chair by the table at any time as well. I went I was not going to pool I always saw open spaces. The pool area was clean for the most part.

The entertainment was amazing of course....Except cats I'm sorry that was so boring I wish they did not get rid of the previous production. I literally fell asleep during cats lol...I love broadway shows but cats is not one of my favs.

I will be returning to the Oasis next Dec. My brother won a free cruise for 2!!! He won it in the casino during the royal slot tournament...I am shocked we never win anything! lol We are excited when we go back he will be playing for 100,000 dollars!

Now I will move onto the negatives.

First off I don't know if it was because of the amount of people onboard...but it was actually the worse service we have ever had on any cruise. They were very impatient, seemed annoyed when you asked for little things like a drink or bread. The windjammer servers did a horrible job of removing plates from the table...again I do not know if it was because of the amount of people...We had a few great people who we tipped very well...other than that they all had bad attitudes.

The cabin was clean but tight for 2 people cabin 14193(central park view). Noise from being under the pool was not a issue at all and I am a very light sleeper I never heard anything. The room steward was friendly but really bad at cleaning I would use a cup and instead of replacing it he just put it right back on the tray with the ice...very gross. Also a little side note I was walking by a cabin being cleaned and saw a steward standing on the bed shoes and all making the top bunk...I was very freaked out.

The ship kind of looks like it is showing its age...some extra rust...the hallway walls in elevators are bubbled up...other than that its gorgeous..But it is still beautiful and massive.

As far as weather goes the days were beautiful sunny and very hot!! water was nice temp...but The seas were very very rough we were rocking and rolling. the ship handled it well nothing that made anyone in my family sick and I travel with a seasick group lol it was more of a annoyance...I liked it because it reminded me I was on a ship and not in a land resort! It rained for about 20 mins last morning of sea day.

I was on the cruise also, with my husband. I think there were too many passengers for the ship to provide its usual level of service. There was an announcement that over 6400 people were on board and usually it's more like 5000. There were lines everywhere, noisy restaurants, crowded elevators - not at all relaxing. The entertainment is very high quality. Our cabin was an ocean view balcony and it was quiet, and well maintained. The food was not great except at the specialty restaurants. I thought the drink prices were high and we didn't buy a drink package because we wouldn't have used it. Agreed, the seas were rough and it was windy the last day so we did things like bingo and trivia rather than going out on the deck.

Congrats to your brother on winning the free cruise, that's terrific. And here I was happy that my husband won $250 at the casino on a 25 cent slot pull, lol.

Yes! I tried everything to win a free cruise! I am happy he won...best thing we ever won. I had a good time regardless of the crowds. I was not happy with thanksgiving dinner tho...It was strange they served whole turkeys the day before but on thanksgiving they def didn't serve real turkey lol. I am excited to go back....I already reserved a crown loft suite...Now I just gotta wait all over again lol

Myself and family of 10 were also on this cruise. It was our first RCCL cruise, so I guess maybe we don't have other RCCL cruises to compare it too, but we kept remarking on how for such a huge ship we never really encountered lines or crowding or anything I thought out of the ordinary (like elevator lines after a show). Although I only stepped in the windjammer once, and while it was not crowded when I was there, I didn't think the food was good enough to return. I don't think I saw rust anywhere, and there was always someone touching up the paint on a door, or the railings somewhere. I thought the shipped looked amazing for being 6 years old. Agreed on the rough seas / wind it was a little crazy. . . did you guys take the ferry (excursion) from Cozumel to playa del carmen? OMG, that ferry was the vomit ferry from hell. . . . I think 1/3 of the passengers were all vomiting from the rough seas, and it was just everywhere. . .UGH.

We'd been to Cozumel before so we just took a cab to Mr. Sancho's Beach Resort, an all inclusive day pass was $50 pp for food, drink, lounge chairs, pool, beach, etc. A really nice day and no ferry ride required.

How crowded was Mr. Sancho's and how much was the cab? Thanks

Yes, I agree the ship was amazing looking! My family loved carnival and didn't care for royal Caribbean too much. Now everyone of them changed their story and now says they love royal Caribbean but will only sail on Oasis class ships now...So now they need to make some more oasis class ships! lol

The Oasis changed the tune of some of my family members as well! I have several frequent princess cruisers in my family who admitted the oasis offered far more activities for young people than most of the princess fleet combined. However the size of the ship did present some difficulties for the less mobile.

We are boarding next Saturday for the 2015 Poker Tourney! Six of our group of 8 will be playing. One won the cruise/buy-in on our Med. Cruise last fall and the others just bought in yesterday. If you are curious as to how the tournament works, check out http://www.theroyalpokertournament.com/rpt-sail-date-december-5th-2015/ Your's next year should be pretty similar.

Congrats!

What did you expect on a holiday cruise?????????

I was surprised because I have been on holiday cruises on Disney and on Princess which were busy but I didn't realize the amount of additional passengers that Oasis would have above the usual occupancy.

Regarding Mr. Sancho's, it was not over crowded at all. We saw other passengers from Oasis and from Carnival - you have to bring your own beach towel from the ship so that's how I was aware it was cruise ship passengers. We had both a table with chairs and an umbrella as well as two lounge chairs assigned to us for the day. The cab fare was $17 each way for the cab, up to four people (not $17 per person). I would recommend it if you just want a beach day.

We were on this sailing too. And at Mr Sanchos-- which was awesome!

We were expecting it to be busy because of the holiday but I didn't expect the roving packs of teenagers all over the ship. Kids running around past 2 in the morning being so rude. But that's not Royal's fault.

We found it extremely easy to get into specialty dining. Chops was practically empty on Monday at 7pm when we went and Izumi (sushi side) was empty on Thanksgiving. Best thanksgiving dinner ever.

My dh, myself, 16 yo dd, and 13 yo dd were on this cruise as well. Some thoughts to the above posts:

Weather was awesome as we had seen very negative reports prior to getting on ship so it was a great surprise! Punta Sur eco park beaches were closed due to high wave conditions.

Ship movement was way less than Allure last year same week. The first two days I felt nothing at all. The last 2-3 was rolling but nothing that I had to take bonine for.

We had drink packages and it was nice to be able to get whatever drinks we wanted whenever we wanted them and change things up all day. Not sure I drank my full share each day but DH did quite well most days.

Pools were crowded but we did always find a pair of chairs together each time we went throughout different times of the day. Our favorite was on day of Jamaica when we had pool pretty much to ourselves until we got off of ship at 2:00.

Did the zipline in Labadee it was fun and felt we had to do it once but price is too high for one ride.

Turkey was real turkey in windjammer on Thanksgiving and it was moist and tasted really good. We definitely enjoyed it more than the turkey breast we felt they served in MDR on Thanksgiving on Allure last year.

Congrats on Royal slot tournament. I was 9th in finals. It was a fun run for it. Good luck next year! Hope he wins and I can say I played against him going into tournament. lol

Sorry such a long post. I could write a lot more but most of you would stop reading. Loved the cruise so much but didn't book another one yet as I felt prices are just too steep with royal offering not offering great deals. I'm sure I'll have to suck it up and pay high but last year we got such a great deal the day after Thanksgiving I thought this year they didn't do anything to get people's business back.

Yes. he did great! It was so nice to see him win! Hey...at least you got to play the finals! I tried 3 times to get in each time my score went down ha ha! I had fun on the cruise me and my family say how much fun it was and can't wait to go back! I booked a loft suite for next time he will most likely upgrade from the balcony cabin the gave him. I saw the weather said rain basically every port day and turned out we got barely any rain! it was fun! glad your group had fun as well!
