Hi we done our first cruise this year to Norwegian Fjords and loved it we went p o Arcadia

Would love to get our adult son (34) who has learning disabilities to try a short cruise he won't fly s o won't be coming to Orlando with us next year, but would love to get him to try a cruise as a way to visit another country.

Any suggestions ?

Thanks

IMO:

I could never recommend a 2 or 3 night cruise as a sample cruise on any cruise line .

They are rarely a good experience on that ship when compared to a longer sailing on that same ship due to cramming too many activities into too short a time . Plus the 2 worse days of any cruise are the Embarkation and Debarkation . Your 3 night cruise ends up with 1 typical cruise day.

Try for at least 7 nights..

Sadly that kinda sums up short "taster" cruises the world over.:(

And out of the UK they also tend to be booze-cruises, including hen and stag parties - quite the opposite end of the spectrum from Arcadia.

The popular longer cruises out of Southampton tend to be around 14 nights & cover the western Med or the Baltic or the fjords, but there are some of 5 to 7 nights which take in Spain's Atlantic coast, Portugal & sometimes a French port or two.

And some smaller ships visit ports on the west coast of France - Brest, Bordeaux, etc.

You're not a million miles from Plymouth - have you considered a ferry to Roscoff or St Malo?

Or further, to Santander - though that's a long crossing & the accommodation, entertainment etc is very ferry rather than cruise-ship.

Book your own accommodation, try the local cuisines, etc - far more immersive than a port-of-call day.

Roscoff certainly warrants a car - take your own or rent, but St Malo can be explored on foot & there'll be coach excursions to places like Mont St Michel.

Cunard does some 4 day cruises from Southampton to Bruges and Guernsey. It was certainly representative of Cunard. MOstly locals, and they really liked dressing for dinner, even on non-formal nights. EM

when we did a west TA Hamburg to NY with a stop in Southampton, the Hamburg to SH portion was available as a stand alone and MANY we doing just that short leg for a quik cruz
