Couple of LA Boarding Questions

Another nice hotel within easy driving distance from San Pedro port and LAX, is the Ritz Carlton Marina Del Ray. Also close to Venice to view the beautiful homes on the canal. We stayed there in January 2017 when they happen to be filming an episode of “Curb your Enthusiasm.” Got to see Larry David and some of the other actors. Highly recommend.

Thank you for the suggestions of hotels to stay in, but we will be staying wherever Regent put us, so thank you JMARINER for saying what hotel Regent are using at the moment, it gives us a general area to work on.

ChatKatinCa, my brother used to commute from England to his LA office and from his pictures and narratives, I have the impression that like most large cities, LA has it's good areas and bad, not forgetting the excellent things to see and do. I'm looking forward to seeing your city, even if it is only for a few hours the day after we arrive, as I know from experience, when travelling West all those hours, WE WILL be up at the crack of dawn, so we might as well make the most of it. After all, we have 5 straight sea days after boarding, so plenty of time to catch up on sleep and get jet leg out of the way.

Must admit, not looking forward to the two flights of over 20hrs in total without the stopover time, between the two flights. Think that jet lag will play havoc to our bodies!!

Do you know which hotel Regent has assigned you? Typically it is on our invoice.

Just want to mention that if you will be driving in L.A., remember that the people from the "bad areas" are on the freeways as well. Rather than driving, you may want to use Uber or a taxi if you know where you want to go. We had not tried Uber prior to visiting L.A. last year and found the vehicle and driver to be excellent - what a surprise.

Agree that there are some very interesting things to see (Getty Museum for instance), but, as with many big cities, you need to be careful (IMO, L.A. is not as bad as Chicago but is worse than many cities that we have been in).

We had a choice for our 2020 cruise to go from Miami to Los Angeles or Los Angeles to Miami. We choose to end our cruise in L.A. in order to avoid spending extra time there but there will likely be horrible traffic from the port to LAX. It is just something that you learn to live with (or not). We are very happy that we moved from that area almost 16 years ago -- best decision that we could have made.

How were you able to switch to to the MIA-LAX cruise when it is all waitlisted? Disappointed we are not sailing together again.

On our invoice it just says TBD as well as our flights. So hopefully when the scheduled intercontinental flights get released we will find out a bit more, but not expecting that to be till early March.

We won't be driving, so will bear the Uber suggestion in mind, if we venture out, but if it is The Intercontinental, there seems to be stuff we can do for a few hours around it.

My brother has already told us that LAX isn't up to mush and if we have 5 or 6 hours between flights, he will recommend somewhere to go and get a decent meal.

When your flights and hotel are set, check back here again. Some of us currently residing in the area might be able to offer additional suggestions.

If you indeed will be staying in Century City, you'll be adjacent to the recently-refurbished Century City shopping mall. Beverly Hills is very close by, a 5 minute drive, and Hollywood is about a 20 minute drive.

The new Eataly Food complex at the Westfield Century City mall is a must. We also very much enjoy the old L.A. Farmer’s Market adjacent to the Beverly Grove shopping center.

If you havent done it before, I also recommend lunch or dinner at the classic Bel-Air Hotel near UCLA. Yes, Wolfgang Puck’s Restaurant is overpriced, but the setting is worth the cost. For a less expensive dinner, eat in the romantic hotel bar with live “American Song Book” piano music.

Along the same vein, Nobu in Malibu is right on the ocean, for a superb lunch or dinner with a great view. Less overpriced than Mastro’s in Malibu.

You can also eat lunch or dinner at the Getty restaurant, which is surprisingly good.

Not too far away on Mulholland and Beverly Glen (even closer to the Skirball Museum) is Herb Alpert’s Vibrato Grill & Jazz, with live jazz every night, great atmosphere, and very good steaks and seafood. Check their calendar to see if there is a cover charge, but you can avoid it by eating at 6-6:30.

Thank you for the helpful information. We have decided to book a cheaper airport hotel and splurge on an all day private tour that will pick up and drop off at our hotel. We think this will let us see what we want to see and skip what does not interest us. The company also offers a pick up at the airport or a hotel, sightsee for whatever amount of time you have and then drop you at the cruise port. Since I have never used them before, I will not recommend them, but a search will find tour companies who do this. Again, thank you to all for sending us in the right direction.

LAX is definitely the closest airport, about 12 miles.

For car service, we always use Execucar. They are a sister company of Supershuttle, but it is a private transfer.

Alternatively, you could use Uber/Lyft, but that depends on how much luggage you have.

We will be onboard Navigator, sailing June 3rd from LA via Panama Canal to NYC. Going w/Regent Concierge, for air, transfer(s) and hotel.

We have done this before.

Fortunately, the June 2nd flight from Seattle is less than three hours. LAX is the arrival airport; assigned hotel is Beverly Wilshire Four Seasons. Fine hotel. Relatively-simple transfer(s). Plenty of dining options either at the hotel or nearby restaurants for the arrival dinner, as we anticipate being in our room by 1630H.

Restful night before next-day boarding.

GOARMY!
