Group rates.....

That's a question with a not so simple answer. What are you trying to get done is a good place to start? Groups are typically a set of 8 or more cabins. You set up an agreement through either Carnival's Groups department or a TA that reserves a block of rooms at a certain rate. Your group has an agreed upon rate for their cabins and likely a certain number of fun points that can be used for amenities like onboard credit.

There is also a TC (tour conductor) credit that kicks in on the 8th cabin / 16th person booked that would give someone a free cruise in the group. This can be used by the group planner, or the credit can be distributed back into the group. That's the quick description of group rates. If you have a more specific question, I'll see if I can help.

Thank you so much! That’s prettt much what I wanted to know! It will be for my 30th birthday! I really wanted the grand suite on a 4 day out of Mobile but I am also looking at other itineraries. Thank you so much for answering my question!

Also the deposit will be the same right?

To reserve group space it’s $25/pp. To actually berth a cabin it’ll be the full deposit of the rate you are booking with. So if group rate, $150/pp. berthing is when you a actually put a name to a stateroom. Otherwise you’re just reserving a category of room. You have until a certain point before you have to put the full deposit down. It just depends on the timing. Best to talk to a TA or Group Dept to get all the details and timing for the sailing you are looking at. Happy Birthday!

Pls Note: You will have to book and pay for the suite upfront.

The free berth is based on the average price of the first two passengers and their room type. It's not an actual free person for the cruise. The tour conductor credit/ free berth is a refund after the sailing or can be added as OBC to your acct.

When you call ask what how many amenity points are available for each cruise you are considering. (They vary by sail date and available group space.)

I paid $25 to set up the group, not $25pp. We booked during the $50pp ES deposit, so everyone was able to select their room right away with minimal costs.

When you are putting together your group, you need to have an idea of the mix of rooms you would like to reserve (Ex. 4- 4G interior, 1 suite, and 2 6A Ocean View and 1 8D balcony). You can not select specific cabins w/o booking AND you can not specify occupancy quantities w/o booking.

Do you know how price drops work with group rates?

It depends: how did the person book?

I don't know how they work if you booked under the "group rate", given by carnival when the group is established. I am not sure if this rate has price protection like the others (it might be like the super saver rate).

With my current group, no one booked under the group rate. Each cabin was booked under whatever rate (past guest, early saver, military etc.) interested the person and cabin is in the group. Price drops are handled same as not being in a group.

I'd also like to add that, you can not book online. You and your guests HAVE to call the groups department to be in the group. And you have like 10 days to have at least 8 cabins book or else they will cancel the group.

If a guest books outside of the group, they can not simply be moved into the group. They have to be cancelled and rebooked into the group. It seems like a small distinction, but it's a PITA trying to get it done.

My TA had so many cabins on hold for 15 days. After we all booked I was told that so much ( average of others booked) would be credited to my balance due. My balance due isn't till Sept, so we'll see if I have to pay it and then get credited back or if she was right and I actually get the credit before balance due. We booked 13 cabins ( OV, Balcony and suites) and each was discounted a small bit. I got points to pick some little perks for each guest totaling $75.00 each cabin. You can pick OBC, wine, bags, all kinds of options. My suggestion, have THEM call your TA and let her deal with all the details. It was easy and I still get the free Berth $. Cruising with a group is so fun, can't wait for ours! Have a great time!

At this point I'm scared of how large my group will be. We booked through a TA. I'm not sure if he booked through the group rate or a promo rate, but my fiancé is a veteran and almost everyone in the group is a past guest. We decided on a cruise wedding and booked last Friday. We reserved 20 cabins for the group. By Monday we had 19 cabins booked for 53 people. I had only planned on about 50 people for the wedding, but it looks like it will be closer to 100 because most of my family hasn't booked yet! We reserved all balcony and interiors because the oceanview are way down on 1 and 2, and we wanted to keep the group together. 14 of the cabins booked are balconies.

Congratulations! I got married on the carnival Pride. Have you checked out the wedding forum? It’s filled with a lot of good info.

I used to book my groups thru a TA, however I was telling him that I wanted a price drop and it was kind of hard to get the TA to do what I needed and want. So I started booking directly to control my bookings. I collect the money from everyone and pay Carnival directly. I give everyone their booking number after final payment. I price match for the cabins and it will reduce the tour conductor credit. The tour conductor credit is applied to my cruise fare with the final payment extended to the day before the cruise in case someone cancel and I have to pay the difference. The tour conductor credit is an avg of all of the cabins per every 15th person which determine the fare of the 16th person. I can still print my boarding pass and luggage tag. Not all sailings have amenity points. You can use very fare for your group except for the casino rates which doesn't count towards the group tour conductor credit and they don't receive the amenity points gift(s).

Interesting....when I talked to Carnival just two weeks ago about a group rate, I was told they don't do a "free berth" anymore. You do get "amenities", be it wine in the room, or bathrobes, or what have you, but they specifically said no 'free berth' any longer.

I don't know if that was just for an Alaska sailing?
