can we take on liquor or wine

Does anyone know if we can bring on wine or liquor ?????

What was the policy before it changed in 2014? I thought most lines allowed one bottle but they never specified the size. Therefore on one we followed the policy of one bottle, but they confiscated our 5 L. We did manage to get it back though. ;)

All that changed at the end of January, 2014.

And before the new policy went into affect, you could bring on any size bottle of wine.

As you can see, no hard alcohol can be brought onto the ship. This policy has been in affect for many years.

If the cruise ships keep offering reduced fare prices to compete with each other, they have to cover expenses somewhere. Liquor and casino depts. help make up the difference. Their expenses don't go down and people keep looking for freebies and bargains.

if you only drink wine in the dining room you still pay the $18 fee, but in advance. In the past they sorta looked the other way about liquor but seemed to be cracking down more recently as they did in Nov. but some posters have said that they have been able to bring some on board in luggage.And there's always RumRunner plastic .

I know they need to make some money off of wine & beer, etc, but wow the prices seemed very high for the products being offered. A glass of wine could easily be $14. on a brand that retails in our area for less than $12. not really complaining just saying wow

Out of Seattle it seemed that you were on the honor system for carry on. We stopped at the wine line but could just as easily continued past it. Note also that others in our part had "rum runners" bags, full of Gin and other liquor, in their checked luggage and on their person. It all got through. We still bought wine for the dinner table but having our own stuff saved us money.

Its funny that a lot of people think that if you spend a lot of $$ on your cruise that you should not care about what they charge for drinks. I am not capable of that. Also you will find others who think that if you sneak wine or liquor that. You are ruining it for everyone and that ticket prices will increase or that HAL will stop the 1 bottle of wine allowance. I do not believe either will happen as a result these actions.

Hal wine prices are a rip-off , stopped cruised them when they started the 18 dollar for 2nd bottle.

Yeah, it's like the $6 for a 12 oz. glass of beer at a NFL ballpark which one could buy for the same amount for about $1 at a local liquor store (in a 6-pack). The line was a mile long, and no one was complaining.

No, that's in Wisconsin where beer is fairly inexpensive. The price is even higher at Miller Park in Milwaukee (home of the Milwaukee Brewers) for Miller Beer which is brewed six blocks away from the stadium. Again, long lines.

You can always tell the heavy beer drinkers at the Green Bay Packers home games in December when the temperature is less than ten degrees, they're the ones without shirts or jackets. :)

when you go out to eat at a local restaurant how much do you pay for a glass/bottle of wine? Also how much do other cruise lines chrage.. So you don't cruise are you allowed to big that bottle of wine you picked up down the street.

Since you asked, we had three Pinot Noir choices for dinner tonight. They were $12, $14, and $24 (not a typo.)

Each glass' price would pay for the cost of a bottle. Corkage would have been $30. We opted for a $76 bottle that would have cost us $28 in the store. The restaurant's cost was likely $19 - $22.
