We are currently booked to cruise next year from Rio De Janeiro to Lima next Feb 2019. We will be on the Oceania Silena ship which is a smaller ship (700 passengers). We are wondering the expected weather and possibilities of rough seas on the 33 day cruise during Feb. 11 to March 16th. Any information would be appreciated.

Welcome to cruise critic!

I like this weather site because it includes lots of cities in each country: http://www.weatherbase.com/weather/country.php3?r=SOU&regionname=South+America. It gives all the information by month, including average temperatures, average high and low temperatures, average precipitation, average days with precipitation, average number of rainy days and average wind speed.

In December 2016/January 2017 we did a Los Angeles to Rio cruise on a much larger Princess ship (with 3000 passengers or so). The temperatures were very hot in Valparaiso and Buenos Aires (90s) and almost unbearable in Rio (110!) - and that was at the beginning of their summer! We had heavy winds only in Tierra del Fuego. There is a reason the area is called the 'roaring 40s'. Our ship was about 6 hours late leaving the dock in Ushuaia because the wind was blowing us against the dock. The sail south to Cape Horn was rough (our bathtub couldn't drain because the ship was angled so that all the water was at the back of tub) and the actual circumnavigation of the island was aborted by the captain (we could see it in the distance). I didn't hear any complaints. I will say that is a wonderful itinerary and we would do it again if we didn't have so many other new itineraries we want to experience.
