Kids clubs for 3 year old

Recommended Posts

Resurrecting an older thread based on a search I just did (woohoo for properly using the search button).

Our daughter is a few weeks away from turning three. We depart on the Magic in 8 days. She has older siblings who are 7 and 9 who take excellent care of her. The three of them are close and work as a team. She is fully potty trained and goes to pre-school 5 days a week. Based on her speech, development and independence people assume that she is older than she looks (3rd children just get with the program).

What are the chances that she's allowed to accompany her siblings in the Oceaneer's Club? We carry wave phones wherever we go. We understand rules are rules, but this seems like one of those instances where the intent of the rule prevents a child who is fully capable of enjoying herself from doing so. Thoughts?

The only thing you can do is to make the request of the YAC supervisor. No one can predict the "chances," as it will be based on many things including the number of 3 and 4 year olds booked on your cruise. Another thing you might consider is whether it is fair to expect the 7 and 9 year old to be looking out for their 2 year old sibling. The older kids will probably be participating in the Lab area where the activities and furnishings are more suited to their ages and size.

About three years ago the rules changed. Now all children have to be 3 to go into the club/lab during secured programming. Even if a child turns three during the cruise, they can only register for the kids clubs on the their actual birthday, not a day before. Back in the day she probably would have been allowed, but too many people abused the system and that got taken away.

You can speak to a manager onboard, but they will just repeat the same thing.

You are free to use the open house times as a family, but the only drop off for children under is the nursery.

This policy has changed many times over the years...but the most recent I'm aware of is as above--strict adherence to the 3 year old rule along with relaxing/eliminating the rule that the child also be potty trained. Translation--any 3 year old is allowed in and they will call the parent for diaper/accident issues; no child under 3 will be admitted. Along with this rule, they also improved the play area and activities in the nursery.

There may be financial reasons as well as the reasons DCL claims...a 2 year old is charged 1/2 the cruise fare portion of the ticket that a 3-12 year old is charged. However, they do not receive access to free kid programming; child care is available at $9 per hour. It sort of evens out.

This is NOT 1/2 of the entire amount that it costs to book them on the cruise. They pay the same taxes and government fees as every other passenger, but half of the "cruise fare" portion of the ticket.

Like I said months back, they may have changed a lot years ago but for the last 3 years this is what the rules have been these rules have been solid.

Please, lets not confuse people by talking about what the rules were in the past and get their hopes up for future cruises

Along with no pull-ups/diapers (with the exception of special needs) allowed in the club/lab: Translation: an un-potty trained 3 year old will not be allowed in the club (unless you lie on the form and say they are potty trained) - but thats a USPH/CDC rule, not really disney, while people may have gotten away with them I can safely say that for at least the last three years (and longer coming from the people I work with) it is a rule, if a kid is discovered to be wearing a pull-up/diaper, parents will be called to come and change them into underwear and a note will be put on their file to be checked every time they come in.

As there are no changing facilities within the club/lab, counsellors cannot change kids even if they were allowed to, its also the same rules on royal caribbean so I am told. I believe carnival allowed un-potty trained 2 year olds in their clubs, but they also allow their crew to change diapers.
