Can women wear dress trousers in GDR?

Hello, we are first time travelers on Oceania.

We just got an email with a what to wear section.

In that section, for women it lists cocktail dresses or skirts and tops in the GDR and Specialty Restaurants...no pants suits or dress trousers.

Women can’t wear dress pants/trousers?

The FAQ says

Recommended on board clothing is resort or country club casual. For evening dining, elegant casual resort wear is suggested. We request that casual jeans, shorts, t-shirts, baseball caps, or tennis shoes not be worn in the restaurants after 6 PM. Baseball caps may be worn in the Terrace Café after 6 PM.

The FAQ has been updated.

This is from the What to Pack blog linked to a Welcome e-mail

Women’s Packing List

As you may know, Oceania Cruises has an elegant casual dress code. This simply means you should pack:

• Cocktail dresses or skirts and blouses for The Grand Dining Room and specialty restaurants

• Blouses and nice shorts for evenings at Terrace Café

• Sundresses – great for transitioning from day to evening with a wrap or cardigan

• Casual shirts and tank tops to pair with shorts, capris or comfortable pants for excursions

• A light cardigan, pashmina or wrap, especially for dining and ashore

• Small clutch or crossbody bag.

I think somebody at Oceania has to cross check documents.

I do not recall getting a Welcome email from Oceania

Guess if they require skirts & dresses I will be cancelling my cruise

Admin,

My question has been graciously answered. If you wish you may close out this thread.

Again thank you, everyone for your help. We no longer have to rethink our packing list.

Admin do not close threads just because you are done

Just curious

do you have a link to the blog where this is posted

I looked on the O blog but could not find it

What’s funny, is that I found it last night, exactly as put in above by the OP. Today, it’s not there! At least I can’t find it anymore. It was dated June 2018. Hmmmmmm. Maybe I am searching differently. If I find it again, i will link to it here, but it was the Oceania blog itself, and not a TA site. Very odd, not to find it again.

The way I read this, it is not the dress code per se...rather a "tip" from the "specialist?"... :p

From the blog, it says..."To help guide your packing, here is our Destination Specialists’ list of what to pack for your cruise."...

Thanks for the reply. We too are first time Oceania guests and if this were really the case, I'd cancel immediately. Haven't worn a dress since being injured in an auto accident several years ago.

The conventional wisdom is to be proud of ones battle scars as they represent milestones of a victory over the grim reaper. :halo:

Yes, that’s it! I was going nuts trying to find it! Yes, it is a suggested list, but to an Oceania newbie, coming from an Oceania Blog, it may look official. IMHO, it confuses the already muddled issue.

Absolutely...I would even say intimidating to those who want to give Oceania a try.

It is, however, towing the company line as it matches the ritzy photos you see in the glossy brochures... ;)

Well that is confusing for anyone new

it also notes a jacket for men

Not Happening with DH either

If they are changing the rules then I hope they are going to enforce them

If these are the new dress code rules I am out

I wouldn't pay attention to the blog. It is only marketing-speak.

People dress nicely but not "cocktail dresses". Hardly any wear sports jackets or blazers.

Just ignore it.

HOWEVER, I do think that the staff who do the blog should talk to those who set the overall policy. The list in the blog is off-putting!

Quite a few men wore sport coats to some of the restaurants. It's not required, but you'll see some pax generally kick it up a notch if dining in Jacques or La Reserve.

Not sure what ship you were on, but quite a few wore sport coats/blazers on the Riviera on our Jan. cruise . Very few, however wore ties. We didn't.

Ever since the beginning it's seemed to me that most men do NOT wear ties, jackets/blazers/sports coats, etc. Some do, of course, and are more likely to do so in one of the specialties or La Reserve.

Since one of the big selling points for Oceania passengers is the lack of formality (nicely dressed but not formal), I doubt they'd gratuitously shoot themselves in the foot this way.

It does appear that not everyone who publishes information for the company considers their words carefully enough.
