Cyclone Marcus, a category 2 cyclone, is presently tracking across Darwin. Cyclone shelters are open. Flights to and from Darwin have been cancelled.

QM2, due to visit Darwin today, is now headed for Bali. Passengers due to disembark and embark in Darwin will have a busy time rescheduling their travel plans.

Northern Australia has been having more cyclones than usual at the end of the cyclone season (November to April).

Cyclone Marcus passed over Darwin and is currently passing over Kimberley Western Australia. There was no loss of life. However there was infrastructure damage, with lots of trees and powerlines down. People are being told to boil water. There have been reports that another cyclone may be forming.

A tour group, which left a Ponant Ship in Cairns, was to spend 4 days in Darwin, then take The Ghan train across the Centre. The tour was cancelled because all flights to and from Darwin were cancelled.

Whilst there is local flooding in the North, there are bushfires in Victoria and New South Wales with loss of houses, property, stock, etc.

Sydney was 40c today!

Australia is a land of extremes.

Balinese immigration officials were supposed to board the QM2 at Darwin. Bali is now cancelled and the ship will sail straight to Singapore. Nine consecutive sea days. (Source: Martin and Jan's excellent world cruise blog.)

Could you please provide the address for their blog? Thanks .

They did not miss much by missing the 'Port of Benoa - Bali.' I was not impressed with the area. Sad they missed Darwin, that is a great place to visit.

Anyway QM2 is great for numerous sea days, plenty of space and facilities, plenty of fencing and ballroom practice and the ships choir will be in fine tune.:halo:
