New ship for marella ex celebrity Century

Recommended Posts

Very disappointed to learn that ALL the Marella ships will be all inclusive. Will mean higher prices with non drinkers and moderate drinkers subsidising the heavy drinkers. That will be time to move for good to other cruise lines who still have the same values that Thomson used to have.

Hi nancyneptune.

Totally agree. DH is a draught beer drinker, and I only drink juice, canned drinks, juice, herbal/fruit tea. No speciality drinks, spirits, wines. I see that the supplement for cans has now been rounded up to £1 since November.

Going off thread, but also agree with your post re the raw deal we get re choice and far flung ports. The dreamliner goes from Glasgow so that can't be the excuse.:(

If she arrives early December 2018 has her paint job, and gets rid of the casinos were will they put her for four months any idea anybody.

She's not due to come into service until next summer but it looks like major works are to be done in the exclusive Veranda area where it will be doubled in size and a new Royal Suite measuring 102 sq mtrs which will have a separate bedroom, dressing room dining area and whirlpool bath. On a Marella ship:eek:.

After 30 years cruising with the company think it's definitely time to jump ship. Standards/service in all areas would have to be upped as they have sadly deteriorated over the last few years.

Will she be in the new brochure[emoji6] Sent from my VF-895N using Forums mobile app

Hi Pensioncruiser.

Don't know if it will have made it into print in time. The final sentence of the statement states that the 2019 programme will be on sale from 5 April. There may be another print of the brochure. It it is in it means that this has been on the cards for some time.

Marella have stated 'extensive renovation' so maybe she is in a poor state and will take some time to get 'shipshape'.

We sailed Century several times, the last cruise being her farewell transpacific from San Francisco to Sydney as she was heading to China. She was a lovely classic and, hopefully, will be. We would love to sail with her once again.

Naples airport is so bad, we flew home from ther in feb 2011 after our cruise changed de to the problems in egypt, we should have flown from barcelona, they kept us on the coaches for ages outside the airport, then all the flights check ins were all in one queue and passengers leaving earlier were at the back

It was so bad and so unorganised we went straight from check in straight to the plane it took so long

mtt - possibly the problems were caused by it being an unscheduled flight and a one off So should think that they would be prepared for regular flights already booked in well in advance No where could possibly be worse than Montego Bay IMO

It would be around 6 unscheduled flights to clear all 1200 passengers from Celebration. No wonder they couldn't cope. The cruise was the Spring repo from Red Sea to Mediterranean.

Hi Scioncruises,

Indeed the Dreamliner does fly from Glasgow for some itineraries so no excuses. We have travelled down to Manchester and Gatwick in the past to join our cruises, either because there were no flights from Glasgow for that particular itinerary, or there was a huge difference in the price.

Glasgow is a large international airport serving all of Scotland and the Borders. Edinburgh is Scotland's busiest airport but Tui have very few flights from there, then there is Aberdeen, even less and only in the summer.

We now feel that if people from Scotland keep going to airports down south that Tui may reduce the number of Scottish flights even more than they have done in the last few years.

So much for Tui saying " Fly from your doorstep ".......it's a long way from Buckie to Birmingham.

Hi nancyneptune

Didn't notice the spelling. I answer to anything (within reason).:D

We're off to Manchester for the second time (2014 and Birmingham 2016) next week and travelling at weekends is a nightmare plus it's Easter holidays. It's a nightmare as we prefer to go by train and have heard horrific stories about leaving car there. That's what we get for wanting to do the Transatlantic crossing.

I can undersand your frustation being as I recall visiting Buckie many moons ago. At least we have a choice of Edinburgh (50) Glasgow (90) or Aberdeen (60) although must admit never even look at Aberdeen because of the cuts Thomson made many years ago. Hubby remembers taking daughter and kids there and didn't like the parking facilitie although it's probably changed now. A fair number of passengers have the option of several airports if necessary and also the choice of Southampton. Over 1000 mile round trip with whole day travelling and overnight stay each way is not our thing plus less port days. No thank you.

I am really getting to the end of my cruising with whatever they want to call themselves. Their standards/service have dropped drastically and it's a shame.

Rant over. Have a nice day. It's like summer here but still a nip in the air. Remember to put your clocks forward tonight.:D
