Just out of curiosity

On our recent Explorer cruise, we were asked for our cabin number when we dined in Compass Rose. I'm used to this for specialty restaurants requiring reservations, but was surprised re CR. Does anyone know why they do this? And is it being done on the other ships now too?

Not a big (or even small) deal. Just curious.

We are recently off the Voyager, our first Regent cruise. I am curious as well. I suspect a main reason is that they print off a small ticket that has your name on it and it is passed to the wait staff, allowing them to get to know your name.

We were also asked our cabin number on the Mariner in Nov-Dec. I would guess it's for your name.....?

Yes- Regent started doing this last year and it is a way to know your name so that you can be greeted properly.

They put it in the computer, and your room Steward also knows you are out eating so it is a good time to turn down the room.

Also, believe they track your dining preferences with your suite #.

I think they have a lot of reasons, no big deal to us.

True but the main purpose was to assist servers in referring to passengers (according to what I was told by a good source.)

When we were asked this for the first time the suspicious one of us was so that they could seat us at a table appropriate to our suite - the better the suite the better the table position. We were wrong. I agree that it is probably to inform waiters etc. of your name

Thanks. All that makes sense--including the making up of the rooms. Most of us don't put out our service signs in the evening.
