There is a review of 786 here. Just click on "Explorer" for the spreadsheet and then the page tab for deck 7.

 

We have never occupied one of these G suites at the stern but from photos of the ship you are probably correct about the solid metal wall below the balcony rail.

 

For us the F suites offer the best value on Explorer. They are an excellent size & layout.

We were in 787; great cabin. It is metal all the way up to the railing; so, if sitting you might be blocked by the railing. One great thing about the balcony though is that you can toss grapes to those in the infinity pool.

We were also in 787.

 

As several others have stated, it is a heavy steel plate railing -- that goes up to eye height when seated -- obscuring a good part of the view. We knew that when we booked it.

 

It was not nearly as enjoyable as sitting on a regular balcony.
