Hi;

We are staying at hotel Estherea and will be taking Connexxion shuttle from the hotel to the airport on a Friday morning. Our flight is at 12:05pm, going to Madrid.

Connexxion has these pick up time for our hotel:

8:16am, 8:46am or 9:16am.

Which time shall we book the shuttle?

How long does it take usually to go to the airport, considering traffic? Someone mention that we need to be there at least 3 hours before our flight.

When flying to the USA most airlines want you to checkin 3 hours prior. This due to more security check and sometimes longlines at checkin. . Difficult to tell how long the drive will be, it depends whether the bus needs to pickup more people at other hotels. If it would be nonstop indeed on weekdays they might need 30 minutes, on weekends just a little less.

PS if 2 or more people sometimes a cab is almost the same price. Also Uber is available in Amsterdam. Check with your hotel, they will know more about the rates.

Hey Ine,

Thank you in advance for your advice. Can you recommend a good car service to get from the airport to the mövenpick hotel at the port and in return is it easy enough to catch the train from the cruise port back to the airport on a thursday morning in June? Maybe a cab or uber is easier to get back to the airport?

Thank you

Todd

Uber is available at the airport as well as in town. But can only be reserved by an app. However there are a lot of Uber guys that will pickup in the streets, which is forbidden. They might overcharge too.

At the airport there will be official cabs waiting (again also some illegal pretending to be legal). Through the airport website you can also make reservations for legal transportation. This might be a little more expensive https://www.schiphol.nl/en/travel-from-schiphol/

Train is underneath the airport, easy to do, unless you have much luggage. During rushhours trains can be rather full. Many frequent trains. Always stay with your luggage at all times. Tickets can be bought at machines or with a small surcharge at the window.

At the cruise terminal again many cabs waiting, sometimes you have to wait a little bit. Trainstation is about 10/15 minutes walk. You can preorder again through the airport website or at the cabcompany TCA:https://www.tcataxi.nl/en/home.html

Thank you. Would you say the 10-15 minute walk from the train station to the Movenpick Hotel, which is essentially at the cruise terminal, is a safe walk? It sounds like taking the train into amsterdam is just as convenient as taking a cab and much cheaper as well.

Yes it is safe, but look out for the many bikers and the special bikepath. At CS take the northern exit,(to the waterfront) turn right after that. Not the city centre exit.

How easy is it to get a taxi form the cruise terminal to City Hotel, a very short 2.0km and how do we insure they use the meter to keep from being overcharged.

I believe this would be a rough walk with suitcases for people in their 70's.

Thanks

Dave

]Problem can be that cabdrivers arenot that willing to do a short ride, knowing other passengers might take a longer ride to the airport. Just see and try. Or try Uber.

I was wondering if anyone has used the Mövenpick free shuttle from the Central station.

We took it once but it's really a 5 to 10 minute walk away and it's just as easy to walk unless you have mobility issues. The walk to the station is slightly uphill.

You need to sign up and they'll run the shuttle. For the return you, I think, need to call them to pick you up. When we realized how close we were we walked. I also don't think the shuttle runs very late. Again, the area is safe and lots of people are out and about so walking is just fine.
