Recommended Posts

Or it going slow and hang around to dock in am?

medical??

Have a friend on her.

There was a medical emergency, they were going to drop off the passenger today, go back out, and return tomorrow.

There have been some updates here and on another social media site indicating a change of plans. Since they got back later than expected, they aren’t going back out to sea.

Currently on Anthem. Captain came on about 3pm yesterday informing of us a grave medical emergency that could not be completed via helicopter evacuation due to severity of the patient & weather conditions. He was expecting an early afternoon arrival into Bayonne but due to rough seas and wind we were pushed back quite a bit and just arrived alongside the dock about 40 minutes ago. The original plan was to go back out to sea but with the late arrival time we are just staying in port until the usual disembarkation time tomorrow. Rumor has it the patient is a woman suffering from kidney failure and is on life support. Prayers to her and the family.

  • 4 weeks later...

We were on the Anthem for that cruise. We had several problems because of the shortened trip and tried to receive some compensation for the shortened cruise. We were unsuccessful and therefor NEVER cruising on RC again even though we are DIAMOND.

I was told such things as the reason the Captain changed plans and didn’t go back out to COMPLETE the cruise was in case the “patient” wanted to get back on the ship??????????? As far as some compensation for the SHORTENED cruise, I was told to read the “contract”. She told me that RC has the right to change ports when necessary. So it was changed to return to Bayonne, NJ. TOTALLY DISGUSTED. Anyone wishing to contact me, I’m at HS43211@gmail.com

Welcome to Cruise Critic, Harvey. :)

In what way was your cruise shortened? Didn't the ship just speed up to get back to the pier earlier? And didn't you still disembark on Sunday, January 19?

Diamond???.... Wow that must make you really upset as such a loyal customer. Perhaps you would have better luck on Carnival.

I’m also interested to know what the basis of your complaint is! I would have thought that with the rough seas, it was more comfortable to be in port, never mind being able to avoid potential arrival delays from rough seas the following day.

By returning Thursday night and not Friday morning, the Omer tournament was cut short and eliminated the opportunity for my wife to qualify after spending $500 to date. A special raffle was moved from 10 pm to 6:30, and we had dinner plans. All because the ship was in Port and EVERYTHING HAD TO BE CLOSED. ALSO......there was “no” last evening because everything was closed.

The Master of the vessel decided someone's life was more important than a tournament.

There was no “zero” rough seas! Sounds like lies coming from RC.

Then what cause all that motion in our forward located cabin the evening of day 11 and on day 12 as we were also on that sailing.

Also why was it that the captain announced that passenger couldn't be medevac because of the weather conditions, as in rough seas.

Oh! So that’s why he changed his mind ad didn’t go back as he stated.

The answer to that was above in post 6.

The arrival, because the ship had to slow down going back to Cape Liberty because of the rough seas, was simply too late to make practical for the ship to go back out as it had to be beyond the 12 nautical miles territorial waters limit for any of the shops or the casino to open again. That would have taken too much time, not to mention cost, as it was already after 9pm by the time the sick passenger was taken off.

I take it you were not on that week.

Spending the night at the dock vs at sea is quite a bit different. I would consider it shortened. But not the end of the world

We had a cash onboard account for this cruise and I settled it early on the last day as we were not expecting to spend any more onboard.

When I checked our accounts later that evening DW and I each had a just over $6 credit for refunded port fee. We booked this cruise less than 2 months prior and didn't miss any ports so I was surprised by this refund.

Maybe that was the compensation for the shorten cruise. Anyway I had to go back to GS to resettle our account by getting cash for that refund ;)
