For a different experience, try 'FIREDOOR' in Surry Hills. It is wood-fired cooking with a new menu every day depending on what top-quality fresh ingredients they obtain. The'll be sure to relieve you of some of your spare $$!

I share what I recently posted on an upcoming roll-call in response to a similar question from a poster from USA:

Places to try in Sydney include Quay, which is right there where the ship berths - well regarded for high end food. Also Kingsley's for steak and seafood, & Otto Ristorante (Italian), both at Woolloomooloo Wharf are highly regarded. Beppis in Darlinghurst is a Sydney icon, as is Doyles (seafood) at Watsons Bay (take the ferry).

You should visit Manly or Bondi beaches (or both) and eat at the many beachside cafes, or try the pubs in the Rocks (adjacent to the ship wharf) for a real Sydney meal. Or there's also the Sydney icon - Harry's Café de Wheels at the 'Loo. There is a nice café (Naked Duck) on Liverpool St, across from Hyde Park.

Some food for thought :D

Depending on the time of year lunch or dinner at Doyles Watsons Bay. Its a Sydney institution for all things seafood. Catch a water taxi or the ferry from Circular Quay. There's a takeaway too and you can paddle your feet in the harbour while you enjoy your fish and chips! Great for a sunny day. Also on fish and chips and a wee bit more expensive is Catalina at Rose Bay and the best Greek food in Sydney is at the Athenian.

How common is it in Sydney for eateries to offer Gluten Free options? Here in rural SE Arizona; only a few restaurants carry a GF Certification (zero cross contamination); but, many have GF options on the menu, or maybe the option of GF bread or pasta. My wife is not Celiac; but Gluten Sensitive, and a large dose will disrupt the next two days of our vacation:(.

Tanks,

Greg

So many options you all have given. Gonna spend the day in and around downtown our first day, so the oyster bar sounds good for lunch, check out a couple pubs around the Rocks and dinner some where nice close to the hotel (probably not the Quay unlesss we some how get lucky at the casino on our cruise). Next day we're going to head over to Manly for the day, so we will check out a a few places there. It's our first time to Australia so we would like try as many local cuisines as we can. Thank you everyone for all of the great reponses
