Clearing Canadian customs Maui to Toronto

HI, we will be flying back from Maui to Toronto after our cruise. Flights stop in Vancouver, just wondering if that means we need to clear Canadian customs in Vancouver? I would guess the answer is yes but not sure. Just trying to figure out how much of a layover we need.
