I do not believe this is part of a larger cruise line. Yes, it is old, but has been refurbished. Uniworld, a tour operator, is only one of many selling this product in the Adriatic. I am a travel agent planning to sail on her in July for one week; hopefully I can add more info at that time.

It looks like it's part of Ulijanik Ship Management . It will be cool to see how the old ships were built. And traveling on such a small ship (only 5 decks and a maximum of 300 passengers) will be more like being on a large yacht! I can't wait to try it! :)

Bestravel, please do let us know what you think & be sure to get lots of pics!!

Will keep you posted. Yes, I ALWAYS, take loads of photos.

As for small...I've sailed on the Windstar...marvelous, and last summer on the Tia Moana (37 cabins) on the lagoons of Bora Bora. I much prefer the small ships. When are you sailing on Dalmicjia?

Good, then hopefully I can report back on my experiences before you go. By the way, as the cruise travels from and to Venice, I'm planning to end the trip with 4 nights in Venice, a city I've wanted to visit for a long time.:D But before that, I have plans to visit family in Rhode Island and Missouri, so I'll keep my luggage handy! Best regards.

Four nights in Venice; that'll be nice. Diane (Diane&4Girls) & I will only have one day before the cruise, and I'm thinking we'll be exhausted from the flight! But I plan on trying to see at least a little before I crash!

Thanks Pam for finding that link... I'd been biting my lip the past few days as I wanted to link that review but I couldn't find the URL :-o.

While we're on DALMACIJA, there are also some very good photos here.

She looks like a very charming little vessel and I have always wanted to visit Croatia, so I would not mind giving her a try at some point. But she is obviously not the thing for someone looking for a mainstream cruise experience of any sort. Strictly for fans of small ships, old ships, and/or off-the-beaten-path travel experiences only.

Those are some great links! Thanks for posting them. Pam, Dian & I are leaving all of our kids & home & doing a "Moms only" cruise!! :) Very much looking forward to it. BTW, it's booked & I'm ready to go!!

No kids this time! They were a little bored on MSC because they're used to the very large ships. They did enjoy experiencing the culture and the pizza. I wouldn't rule MSC out for next year on a larger ship.

I loved the pics of the Dalmacija. One of my colleagues has sailed on her and loved it.

Kim, we can't find any flights for the day prior... are you ok with 2-3 days prior leaving from CLT? I can try to find us a TA rate at a Venice hotel.

I went on the Dalmacija a year last May and it was wonderful - but a quiet and fairly old-fashioned little ship. If you have seen the film "The Talented Mr Ripley" it's the one that is featured at the end - lots of wood and atmosphere.

Goodness knows how kids will find it - there were not many kids when I went and there is very little inthe way of entertainment.

The ports were wonderful - Venice, Dubrovnik, Korcula, Kotor (in spite of horrendous stormy weather and rain it was still one of the stunning spots of the world.)

Enjoy.

Has anyone been on the MS Dalmajica recently? We are going in September 2007 and would like to hear some reviews please. Were the escorted trips worth taking?

We are going on the MS Dalmajica on July 28. I can post a report after that. I found a brochure which looks quite new and may help. The address is www.simplonpc.co.uk/AdriaticCruises/DalmaciyaBrochure-1_900.jpg

There do not appear to be any up to date reviews as it has gone through a refurbishment. We opted for the Category 5 cabin.

I did find a review from a few years ago which outlined some of the day excursions but guess that would now be out of date.

I presume the Upper Hutt is in NZ and coincidence we will be in NZ and playing golf at the Royal Wellington course at Heretaunga in March for a few days.

We are staying in Vencie for two days before the cruise and have not yet decided which hotel.

Hope this helps.

Yes, Upper Hutt New Zealand. We are just along the road from the golf course you are visiting. We too are booked in Cat 5 on the Dalmajica, but in mid September. I found a review that date back a couple of years when the ship obviously needed work on it but we have been informed that it was refurbished/upgraded last year. We have not confirmed accommodation in Venice yet and are having a few nights in Trieste before that.

I notice the web address I gave you just goes to Page 1 of the brochure. If you change the figure -1 in the address after brochure to -2 it comes up the second page etc and I think it runs to four pages with some details of what happens on board, dining etc and also in port highlights at each of the destinations. Otherwise call up the main address www.simplonpc.co.uk and work your way through.

I promise we will give you a run-down of the cruise etc when we get back early August which I hope will be in time before you leave NZ.

Keep the weather nice for mid-March over there.

Venice hotels seem to be very expensive so we are still checking and trying to find one between main tourist area and the dock they use which I understand is not the main shipping terminal.

I believe there is a captains dinner which is ladies a dress, men a jacket. Our travel agent supplied us with this:"What to wear: Casual and comfortable attire and light shoes are suggested during the day anywhere on board. For days in port

wear comfortable clothes and walking shoes. Bathing suits are suitable for and around the pool only. Warmer clothes are recommended for spring and autumn cruises. For the Gala and theme nights more formal attire is suggested – cocktail dresses for the ladies and a jacket and tie for the gentlemen. Hope this helps. When are you thinking of going?
