DreadPirateRobert Posted January 28, 2018 #1 Share Posted January 28, 2018 How close is the cruise terminal to the USS Midway and the other sailing ships docked near Seaport Village?
CruiserBruce Posted January 28, 2018 #2 Share Posted January 28, 2018 A quick look at Google Maps shows the cruise terminal is immediately north of the Midway. Total walking distance to Seaport Village is a maybe a little over a mile.
DaveOKC Posted January 28, 2018 #3 Share Posted January 28, 2018 How close is the cruise terminal to the USS Midway and the other sailing ships docked near Seaport Village? Easy walk to Midway (5-10 minutes?). A bit further to Seaport Village, but not far.
riffatsea Posted January 28, 2018 #4 Share Posted January 28, 2018 Hi, The cruise port is in the middle of downtown. The Midway and the Maritime Museum with its old sailing ship and Russian sub are all nearby. You can walk to either of them in 10min or less. I am not aware of ships being docked at Seaport Village. It is basically an outdoor specialty mall.
Rare Keith1010 Posted January 29, 2018 #5 Share Posted January 29, 2018 Just there in May. Yes a five to ten minute walk. Very easy. Keith
Rare Keith1010 Posted January 29, 2018 #6 Share Posted January 29, 2018 I want to add there is a lot right at the port to see so if you continue past that area you will see other sites even one dedicated to Bob Hope and what he did for the military. DreadPirateRobert Posted January 29, 2018 Author #7 Share Posted January 29, 2018 Thanks for all the replies. I spent a couple days in San Diego several years ago and remembered seeing piers that could handle a cruise ship but didn’t actually see one docked there. We are staying down close to the waterfront before our cruise.
Northern Aurora Posted January 29, 2018 #8 Share Posted January 29, 2018 Just a quick comment regarding the port geography -- the Midway is about a 5 to 10 minute walk one way from the cruise ship terminal, and on the other side of the cruise ship terminal the Maritime Museum, with its collection of ships, is also 5 to 10 minute walk. So the cruise ship terminal is roughly equidistant from either.
jamesr3939 Posted February 2, 2018 #9 Share Posted February 2, 2018 We visit SD several times a year and until recently never toured USS Midway. It's awesome and will take several hours to really explore. You can also do one of many bay cruises directly next to the cruise port. We have done a dinner cruise and 4th of July fireworks cruise, again awesome.
SadieN Posted February 2, 2018 #10 Share Posted February 2, 2018 Best advice we got for the Midway— get there early and do the Island (tower) first. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
