fg_hb Posted February 12, 2018 #1 Share Posted February 12, 2018 Hello, error or not? I got an email from MarineTraffic where I am monitoring the QM2, which stated, that QM2 reduced its draught from 10.3 to 8.0 m. Could that be true? If yes, does the QM2 lying in the water? I’m curious about that. Maybe some of the current passengers can give me a hint. Frank
Guest SilverHengroen Posted February 12, 2018 #2 Share Posted February 12, 2018 A 3m draught change is excessive for a ship like QM2, more like something a big cargo carrier would experience when loaded/ unloaded. I’d say it’s an error, possibly an off reading from an instrument?
john watson Posted February 12, 2018 #3 Share Posted February 12, 2018 I know cruise ships have water ballast tanks which they keep comparatively empty to save fuel in light seas and fill them up for heavy seas for stability. I have no idea about the figures quoted in terms of realism. Regards John
Underwatr Posted February 12, 2018 #4 Share Posted February 12, 2018 I've always considered the bulbous bow to be further out of the water than anyone could have intended, but what do I know? I looked for photos of the depth markings along the waterline but I couldn't read any of the numbers in the pictures.
fg_hb Posted February 13, 2018 Author #5 Share Posted February 13, 2018 I got another email which stated that the draught was changed back to 10.3 m. In my opinion the draught wasn’t changed at all. Thank you for your answers. Frank
