Super excited to sale on 9/13 on SeaDream 1 through the Greek Isles. Can anyone give us an idea when they say morning arrival and evening departure, what times those are, roughly? We are really looking forward to exploring the ports/islands and any tips and info is appreciated. Can't wait!! Thank you :)

We haven't taken this particular cruise, at least with SD, so I can't comment on any of the particulars. But we are veterans of many SD cruises. It is pretty common to see times of "morning" or "late evening" in the schedule. I don't think that SD is being secretive; I think they just don't know. Often the times of departure are left to the captain's discretion, and that does work out for the best. For instance, if the water is choppy, the captain may decide to stay in port until after dinner so that the dinner hour can be enjoyed in the calm. The arrival time will usually be announced during cocktails the night before, when the cruise director gives the run down on the next day's port. I hope you enjoy SD as much as we do - we just keep coming back!

Thank you! That makes total sense. We are just so excited and it's our first "small" ship so not having times made us wonder.

since you've done many SD cruises maybe you can tell us about disembarkation. Is it pretty quick? They said it's between 8-10 but we are hoping for 8:00 so we can catch a flight the same day. Otherwise, we have to wait until the next day and that really messes up the going back to work schedule!

It is totally different from large ships. There is no disembarkation "process." You just walk off of the ship, giving hugs to everyone you pass because they're become friends over the last week. But the ship has to be cleared by the port for disembarkation, and that depends upon the port. Normally getting off at eight is no problem. What is your disembarkation port? Perhaps someone who has ended his cruise there will chime in.

Thank you! The Husby seems to think that if they know we have to catch the flight, they will make sure we get off as soon as we are cleared... :) i'm guess so. The port is Piraeus and we fly from Athens back to Florida.

It should be fine. The crew will accommodate you in any way they can. There is no competition to see who gets off the ship first - quite the opposite. Most of us have to be thrown off at 10 a.m. And they will open breakfast early on debarkation day.

Haha! yeah, i figured that most people won't be in a rush...sadly, we will need to hustle on to the long trip back to reality. This trip will be the longest time we've taken off in a row, maybe ever!

Just to add a couple of things to what DW Zimmy wrote. A morning arrival will likely be coming into port before or during breakfast. The arrival, in many locations, is very scenic so the Captain will probably want to do it when people are awake. When they say evening departure, it may be after dinner, so people who want to can have dinner ashore. Late evening departure will mean you can hit the bars ashore after dinner, and sailing might be 11 or midnight.

One word of caution. You will likely be anchoring at all of the islands and taking a tender ashore. Sometimes the seas are too rough to safely tender and the Captain will decide to go elsewhere. Consequently, do not book any private excursions where you have to put money down. Our rule of thumb is that we will book privately only at at the end of a cruise because the ship has to get there. Even then, there is nothing guaranteed. This winter our cruise ended in St. Martin, but we were docked on the Dutch side instead of the French side as scheduled. What we have found works in the Greek islands is that you will find several taxis at the port, and there might be a driver who lived in the States for some time and has fluent English. Bargain with him for a tour of the island. He will take you around for a few hours, and maybe to his village where his mother runs a little restaurant. Can be a lot of fun.

We have done that area twice on SD. Typical arrivals are between 7:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. Departures are anytime between 4:00 p.m. and 4:00 a.m. It really depends on where you have come from and where you are going. As an example from Hydra to Pireaus the last night is only about 30 miles. Most of the distances are less than 100 miles.

Zimmy mentioned scenic arrivals into ports. Unfortunately there are no scenic arrivals into any of the ports on this voyage. Pireaus is especially ugly as it is a huge port that sites right on the coast.

You can leave whenever you want after the ship docks. SD is good about asking people who don't have early flights to let the early people go first. Keep in mind it is about an hour to the airport and you truly need dto be there 3 hours early so don't book before noon. I suggest that you arrange transportation ahead of time. We like George's Taxi. You can find his information online or in the Greece Ports of Call board.

Thank you for all the great info. When they are in port late, can you stay there a little later? Or is all aboard time set?

All aboard time is dependant on sailing time. If it is a late sailing you can stay ashore as long as you want. Last tenders are usually about 30 minutes prior to sailing, though if everyone is on board there have been times when we have left early, usually to get to some place that is not so bouncy.
