Queen Victoria - Is it difficult to get a Table for Two in the Britannia restaurant?

We read an old thread (2008) and it was mentioned that getting a table for two in the Britannia restaurant in the Queen Victoria is quite difficult. We thought we would ask other cruises what is the updated situation for table for two's in 2017!

Is it also true that if your tickets are "Early Saver" Fares Tickets, even if your table booking time is given as "confirmed", it is not actually the case until you get on board and they could change it? And is it true that if your tickets are on "Cunard Fares", if your table booking time is noted down as being confirmed, it is really confirmed, and you would not discover that your table/dining times are changed when you get on board?

We are planning to book for a cruise on the Queen Victoria and we would be a little disappointed if we cannot get a table for two for dinner, or our table time is changed (we always prefer to dine early).

Can experienced cruisers help give us some idea how the table/seating/dining-times allocation is set in the Britannia restaurant on the Queen Vic please? Thank you.

We are booked on the QV for the first time for the November Caribbean and the terms and conditions suggest that we have no guarantee with Early saver tickets on the table size or time, only a second preference behind those that have paid the Cunard Fair. I guess as always managing expectations depends very much on how many want early or late booking and tables for two on that particular cruise. No doubt the Maitre d as always will try to accommodate as near as possible or move people when they can. We visited the on line Cunard Voyage Personaliser and in the dining tab we notified our preferences via the Early Saver dining preference e mail link that they provide. Also as soon as we board we intend to visit the restaurant to check with the Maitre d that all is well with our preferences.

I think if you book the (full) Cunard Fare, you have a very good chance of getting early sitting and a table for 2. You will probably find that this dining time is more requested on Southampton round trips, than Mediterranean cruises with the warmer evenings and perhaps younger passenger profile!

There has been quite a lot of discussion on this subject on this board recently, and you might do well to read the T&Cs on the Cunard website, as to priority in dining arrangements, so you are aware of them before you book.

It is good to read from earlier posters on this thread of the good service being received at present.

We have had a 100% success rate in requesting and getting a table for 2 (twice, so not a large sample I will grant you).

Plenty of tables for two but, you may get a table for two but you maybe a few inches away from the next table for two:loudcry:.

As I recall, on both occasions we were close to another table for 2. But that means you can still talk to the people you are next to but equally still eat as a couple.

  • 3 months later...

In early November we were in a discount balcony and were assigned a table for two in early seating. We wanted a larger table and at one nearby a couple by themselves at a table for eight were upset at the head waiter for that setup so were happy for the company. I think they give everyone a seat initially in the MDR but then people eat elsewhere.

Hi we have had no issues requesting at time of booking getting a table for two on second sitting,

We did notice a few of them never occupied, as other posts they are close together but we have made some lovely friends who we are still in touch with.

If a table for 2 is a must ,Why pay a saver fare as your requests will be at the bottom of the list as for confirmation all Cunard are doing is confirming that they have your requests not that your request is granted, Why not try

Britannia Club which sometimes are available on a Saver fare this at least will give you a 18.30 Dinning time and improvers you chancers of getting a table for 2.

My brother and his friend got their late request table for two in the main dining room without problem.

He said that there were quite a lot of such tables, but they seemed to be stuck in a "naughty corner ".

Most of the small tables were served very very quickly and guests were out of the place well before other diners.
