Yes, you can.

The $4,000 excess would give me pause.

Not too dissimilar from regular car rentals. Major excesses are around $3500 last I saw.

They've jacked them up to encourage people to buy the 'optional' excess reduction.

It sounds okay but what about the return trip.

About time the bullet train got built between Canberra and Sydney, would be handy for cruise transfers. But they would have to have a 1st class carriage for the 'pollies.':D

The pollies wouldn't use it and even if they did it would likely only be the Sydney MPs, they like their business class and the lounge that comes with it.

True, but it wouldn't suprise me that an act of paliment was made to ensure a carriage (empty on every trip) be made avaliable for them never to use....(Gotta waste our money somehow!)
