Tipping wisdom

We normally give a tip to the tour guide if they are very informative and excellent supplying facts that are interesting.

Also if they took care of us and the group as a whole.

We also give a tip to the driver if they were professional in handling the vehicle and also watched over us.

This was for a group tour from the ship but can be applied to a private tour.

Tip also counts on the number of hours we were out with them..

On organised multi day tours, the printed guidelines tend to be $10 US per person per day for tour guides and $5.00 pp per day for the driver and half this for half day tours. This has applied for tours in several countries from China, the UK and S. Africa.

( I sometimes feel this is excessive considering the daily wage in some countries is quite low and they are already being paid a wage but probably the norm in the US and Canada. )
