Thinking about cruising out of Barcelona April 22...thoughts?

Received offer for a free interior room on a premier cruise, one of the options was out of Barcelona, cost to upgrade to balcony $450/person, would receive $200 OBC. My wife and I normally depart out of Galveston or NOLA, but living in west Texas we always fly so the extra cost to get to Barcelona doesn't bother me, just not sure if I'd enjoy, we have just always enjoyed the caribbean, never been to Europe, lots of ports of call, would appreciate any input.

If you've never been to Europe I would definitely go. It's a completely different trip than the Caribbean. But you have to go into it with that attitude. You are going to experience the culture, see the history, the art, the architecture, etc. if you book it and come back asking which stops have the best beaches - may as well save on the airfare and do the Caribbean again.

Barcelona to where?

It is a very popular cruise port, but do some reading about recent events there involving tourism. Several people I know have had their money stolen in that city, in highly crowded, popular tourist areas.

People in Barcelona say the same thing about Miami:D It's just an embarkation point.

I would do it for sure. Barcelona is an easy city to fly into, probably the cheapest alont with Dublin/Rome. Not sure where you are flying from, but I bet it will be a pretty straight shot. Enjoy!

I'd do it just for Sardinia...and if you havent been to Rome/Vatican before, it should be something that is on everyone's bucket list.

We did it last year on Vista. My favorite cruise ever and Barcelona was amazing. Stayed 2 days pre-cruise. Beautiful city with lots to do. Would jump on that trip!

I worried myself sick my DH wouldn't enjoy because he is a beach person, not cultural. We both came home amazed and said it was a trip of a lifetime and can't wait to go back!

Did all of these ports except Sardinia. We also did some of the Greek Isles.

Grab it.

I've seen these casino offers get "sold out" within a day or less.

We did the Vista Inaugural USA departure cruise this way.

Had a bounce back offer from a cruise in early September '16, had to book the next before the end of Sept. to take the offer. Well checked on cruises starting the minute we left the cabin, but for a full week nothing available fit our schedule so we figured we'd kiss the offer goodbye. Finally 3 days before the offer expired DH was on Carnival.com one last time and even less cruises were now showing but he found one if we could get decent airfare to NOLA that he said he would make work. This was at 10 am., I was at work but would be home at noon so he said he would wait to book it. He went to show me the itinerary but when he went through the my offers section the calendar view was populated with many more cruises. SO we looked through an amazingly the 11 day Vista sailing out of NYC was included. Trust me I couldn't get my PVP on the phone fast enough, we grabbed a cabin and without even consulting her booked another for my mom (whom also had the same offer). She was delighted when we called her at dinner time so she book face messaged others we knew on the last cruise that earned the bounce back to book it as well. Needless to say before midnight all the casino offer cabins for that cruise were sold out and a few "casino friends" from the last cruise were jealous because they could not act fast enough to grab one.

It appears most of the cruising is at night, is it worth it to upgrade to a balcony?

I always book inside cabins on a port intensive itinerary like this one. But sailing into the ports would be nice....I will have to run up on deck :)

Only you can decide if the upgrade is worth it!
