Snorkeling/Cruising Indonesia

We are experienced snorkelers and would love to visit Indonesia. Are there cruises that lend themselves to good snorkeling spots w/minimum days at sea? Any info appreciated. Thanks

My wife and I are booked on the Celebrity Millenium, 20 Jan 2013 / 14 days, doing Singapore, Indonesia (Bali, Lombok and Komodo), Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur, Penang0 and Thailand (Phuket). All locations are good snorkeling locations. We dive at Bali, Lombik and Phuket.

Good Luck -- Tony

The diving around Komodo is some of the best in the world. If you have a day there, there is probably enough time to go to the island and see the Komodo dragons, and also do a dive or two.

HI Sandi, Toni, we also will be visiting the Maldives and Phuket in December while on board a Regent cruise. Would love to dive at either port stop. Who are you diving with?

Checked w/Baros in the Maldives, but you must book a dayroom to book with them. Thanks in advance. r/wes

I second that. Komodo is one of the best in the world. The best is to take a liveaboard boat leaving from Bali, and spend a week in the Komodo Marine Park. There are many to choose from, and the itenary is usually a week. All visits island of Komodo and Rinca, other island where dragons live, of course.

Liveaboard is a diving boat, not a cruise ship, and does not have flaming Alaska, swimming pool and other cruise amenities.

There was a good amount of fish and coral at the Pink Beach on Komodo Island. Be careful- there are some strong currents if you get a bit away from shore. Bring your own gear including fins, or double check with your tour operator that they provide fins. I was not the only person who got caught in the strong current and almost got pulled out to sea- our tour operator had said all snorkeling equipment was provided, but they only meant masks and snorkels- no fins.

We visited Komodo on a cruise with Azamara. We did a private tour that took us to see the dragons and then a short boat ride to "pink beach" and the snorkeling there was some of the best ever!! The boat anchored not too far from the shore and there was not any current and we did not use fins - just like always, it probably depends on the time of year and weather, winds, etc. as to whether the current is strong or not. We were there in April and the weather was perfect for our day there - no wind, rain or rough water - just hot, humid and sunny - and the water felt great after walking around and sweating while seeing the dragons. You will love the snorkeling there.
