Aukland car rental

We will be in Aukland on January 29 & 30, 2018 and want to rent a car/ van for 6 people. We have found out that it is a holiday, Aukland Anniversary Day. Our travel agent says he is unable to find any cars available. We will be on the Viking Sun and they have no suggestions either. Any suggestions? We are going to visit a friend of a friend at

Heres a wild card. You have chosen an area that is Aucklands little secret. A delightful rural location, not far as the crow flies but a bit round and about to get there. As you state it will be a holiday and the main road up that way is called the holiday highway and is notorious for gridlock on holiday weekends . However I do know that area as I have friends in that road and the location you want is closer to the "back road" Highway 16 ,the alternative route to take when State Highway 1 is busy.

With 6 people to transport you will need a van so how about a local service that shuttles groups from up this way to the airport . I know they do the port as we have used them for drop off and pick up from cruises.Here their contact.

The Avis nearest where the cruise ships dock in Auckland (about a ten minute walk away) has a dozen or so vehicles types available for those dates including a "premium van". You'd similarly have no trouble from the Airport. Nowhere will be closed on those days - the worst that might happen is that some restaurants might try to charge a 15% surcharge to cater for having to pay staff more on the actual holiday day.
